Bella is going under the knife on Friday.

I had seen several post regarding licking and chewing on the stitches, my vet uses stitches on the inside, but skin glue on the outside, he said the incision heals faster and they have nothing to chew and possible pull out.

Has anyone else had a vet to use this???

Good luck to Bella. Wishing her a speedy recovery. I've never heard of stitches done that way. I'm actually kinda interested in how they manage to stitch the skin from the inside. Sounds good in theory. We lucked out with Thora's spay in that she wasn't really interested in them until almost a week later when they started healing and itching. I just gave her an "AH AH!" every time I caught her and she would leave them alone. Hers really got swollen though and she had a bit of a rash on her belly. The vet said she had an allergic reaction to the stitches. She gave us an antibiotic they day we had the stitches removed and within a day the swelling was gone.

That's how Juno's incision was - absorbable sutures on the inside, tissue glue to hold the skin layer together. She healed nicely and never bothered the incision site, but that's not to say all dogs won't. Just keep an eye on her and be prepared to put on the cone of shame if she's acting too interested in the area :)

Good luck!

My Bella gets spayed on 4/27/12. My other two Boxers never had any problems. The hardest part was keeping them from jumping and playing around.

My Sasha get's spayed on 4/20/12. I'm a nervous reck! She get's a small incision (per the vet) and a tattoo to indicate she's been spayed. Is the 'Cone of Shame' even necessary? The vet is requiring we get it along with pain meds. She runs up and down the stairs so much I'm afraid for her.

Neither of my girls needed the cone, but I was home to supervise them. Arabella used the pain meds for I think the next day ant that was it. I would block the stairs off for the first few days at least, maybe even upto a week depending on how she is healing. I think we stayed of the stairs about 4 days. Nothing slows my girl down! Good luck and postive ((vibes)) for surgery!

My old dog managed to tear the glued skin and take out the internal stitches while wearing the cone of shame!

Sausage dogs are quite flexible, but even that effort had both myself and our vet scratching our heads!!

not to mention ANOTHER vet bill to redo the stitches and antibiotics -__-"

hopefully the boxers attention span wins out and she doesnt work out a way! haha

Out of 3 dogs spayed and 1 neutered that I've had, none of them required a cone afterwards. I was home with them though to supervise. It really depends upon the dog. My sister's dog managed to rip open his stitches even with the cone on.

Bella did great, she has not had one problem.
I don't think she even knows she had surgery.

I brought her home friday afternoon and she slept for about 5 hours, then it was as though she had just woken up from a nap or something, she was ready to play. She grabbed a toy and started shaking it at Napoleon.
After a few minutes of her getting some energy out and allowing her to eat a little, I put her to bed for the night.
Saturday morning, she was ready to go... ran out the back door chasing something and played for a couple of hours. I crated her again, just for safety reasons, so she wasn't happy with me for a while.
She has not slowed down one bit, hasn't bothered her incision or anything.

She is just a happy girl.
Thanks for all the support.
