I bought Christmas bells --they are 3 large jingle bells strung vertically on a green glitter strand of material (oh how pretty! ) that is meant to hang off a door knob, however I secured them to my sliding glass door with clear duct tape so they are at "boxer level" for little Gracie and she can ring them easily with either her nose or paw. They are mounted so that they stay in place and will only ring if she rings them or when I open the door, they will ring slightly.

UK doggie doorbell

i use a doorbell for sasha - it is a big dog paw and you hit the middle and it can be set to chime or WoofWoof. It did take her a while but now she does it whenever she wants to get out the door to the stairs for anything. Everyone in our pub thinks it is amazing especially when we have the sound downstairs and she rings to tell us. Excellent idea and I would never have thought of it without BW. Definitely worth it if you haven't a big barker or noise maker. I reckon my cats will be pressing it soon because they are always at the door trying to get down into the pub

After reading through the posts I wondered what kind of bells do you all use, thanks!

I think I got this advice on BW, but I purchased both of mine (one for home and one for travel) at www.poochiebells.com they're adorable and sturdy and specifically made for this purpose...

First off.. I just want to say to everyone who started talking about this back in Sept THANK YOU!!!!!!! When Shaemus joined our family in October I had no idea how I was going to potty train him. I read this thread and gained confidence. It has worked WONDERFULLY!!!
I had some old macremae rope lying around, then I went to a store where everything is a dollar and bought a bag of bells. I knoted the roped and put it on the door knob and sewed the bells on. Everytime we wanted Shae to go outside.. we would make him wait for just a minute at the door.. ring the bells and say potty outside. (it was so cute, the sound made him tilt his head) Then we started putting the rope near his mouth. The first time he did it we were all beside our self with silly!
As he has gotten older (he's six months now) he is learning to "hold it" so if he rings the bell and we say "OK" or "be right there" he lays down for a minute until we get there and let him out.
We even took him with us on Christmas day and my sister in law had sleigh bells on her door. They were so surprised when Shae rang the bells.. and even more surprised when four us said "ok, be right there" : )
Stick with it.. this is a great tool and a good way to communicate with the pup!

I would like to start bell training Abbie as she is too little to go out back with the big dogs yet (my back yard is fenced in.) I think I may even try to train Brady with the bells due to being winter here in PA. My question is though, in the summertime, the dogs can freely go in and out into the fenced in yard via the doggie door. How will I get them to ring the bell in the winter to be let out when they can go out freely in the summer? Kind of hard to explain, know what I mean?

i'm trying to do the bell also,but i am letting them use their nose so they won't scratch up my door/wall.
