When we potty trained Buddy, I couldn't hear him on the other side of the house. So, I got the idea off this site and used the bells. It only took about 3 days and he was ringing them on his own. I love it!
Do y'all think there's any chance of bell training a dog who doesn't actually like to go outside? Or actually ever asks to go out? Shedoesn'tpotty in the house, but we do take her out on a strict schedule tied to her mealtimes.
one way to keep the ringing strictly for potty breaks is designate a door for potty time only(mite not always be posible) That way he/she begins to associate the bell and door to potty and not play time in the backyard.
One way that worked for my friend was they had a side door on the garage to the backyard that was used for play time(outside toys were kept in the garage) and the sliding door off the living room was the one with the bell on it.
SO in that case the dog associated the garage with playtime and the sliding door with pottytime.
Might not work for everyone considering thier house layout but worked great for my friend
ohh and one other way is do leashed potty breaks I had to do that for awhile myself.
