Bell Training.. Why didnt I do it before?!

I have no idea why i didnt do bell training before. So, so easy!!! With the kids being home the last couple of weeks, Adam has had a few accidents by the back door- the kids just dont pay attention to him. Adam never makes a sounds - just stands by the door. So, i hung a cow bell on the door .... hit it with my hand... told Adam "go potty"... opened the door... out he went!! It was that easy!! LOL He's been ringing the bell ever since. Evie even started ringing last nite!! :D

I did remember to take the bell off the door while we are gone at work today

Sooner or later you WILL grow tired of hearing that bell......LOL
A few months ago dh decided that he didn't like the bell anymore, Cami will ring it CONSTANTLY....he took it down, sat it by the door on a ledge and now Cami just knocks it off and it still rings! Smart babies!!!

I guess I am going to have to try the bell thing. Like Adam, Sam will just stand at the door. I sure hope he catches on as quickly as Adam did!! Good boy, Adam! appicon

I guess I am going to go buy a bell Chato will go to the back door sit and wait about a minute. If I don't see him he goes on the carpet. I can't get mad at him i wasn't paying attention. Does it really work to rub his nose in it and throw him outside when you catch him. I don't want to try something that doesn't work.

No, rubbing their noses in it serves no purpose....putting them outside won't either. You have to catch them in the act, stop them and take them out. Once they go praise/treat like there is no tomorrow and they will catch on ALOT quicker.

The other means mentioned will only teach them to figure out that they better hide when they do go so no one will notice.

I never did get the reason behind rubbing their noses in it? They know they went, it's their "stuff"...

I agree the bell thing was the best thing I ever did to help me know when GAGE needed to go potty. Now he annoys me with his bells. Ha! He rings them if he has to go potty or if he just wants to go out and play. They are so smart!

Evie FINALLY caught on that if you ring the bell, you get to go outside! LOL They are now ringing just to play. Evie will even ring to just get your attention :D Even with the kids home (we are on year-round school and they are "off track") we;ve had NO accidents! Yeah!!

The bell has helped a lot in potty training my 2 boys. They don't always ring it, but once I started training them on it, they started going to the door consistently. Sometimes they will just paw at the door instead of hit the bell, and sometimes they will go and just sit and wait. As long as they give me some notification, I don't mind.

When I decorated for the holidays I hung sleigh bells on the back door knob.Lola figured out on her own that if no one sees her at the door, if you ring the bells they will come! what smart babies!!

What kind of bell?

I have the same problem with my pup, she just goes and sits by theback door, and if I don't notice within like the first 5 seconds, shes using the restroom inside. What kind of bell should I try and where do you buy it?
