I finally gave in and have let my 7 1/2 week old boxer puppy sleep with me in my bed. I know some people dont advise that, but I do not have a problem with it even when he gets bigger. But my question is do others on here let their boxers sleep with them at night but crate them while they are at work during the day? I come home at 12:30 to feed him and let him out. I dont want to develop seperation anxiety or anything else.

Also with crating, he has been just barking and whining at the top of his lungs as I leave in the mornings. Poor neighbors! Anyway on average how long was it until your puppy adjusted to his crate? I know it varies with every dog, but was just wondering how long it took your boxer?

Thanks for everyones help ahead of time!

My boys sleep w/ us at night and are crated during the day. They are in their crate for about 5 hours each day.
It took Tyson about a month to get use to his crate.

Both of mine sleep in our room at night and are crated during the day. We used to let them sleep in the bed until I couldn't take it anymore, (2 boxers and 2 adults in a queen size bed doesn't equal very much space to move). Now they just lay in the floor on their pillows and don't bother anything in the room. Most nights one of them will sneak up in the bed after we are asleep but I have to redirect them to the floor.

As for the crate, Sampson would cry and jump and throw all kinds of fits when he was first crated during the day but he eventually stopped after a few weeks and now goes in there and lays down without a problem.

Would the stress from being crated cause diarhea? I did switch her food yesterday from some nasty food the breeder was feeding her to Nutro Ultra so that could be the cause of it also. But we got her crate last night and when she woke up this morning her stool looked awful. It could just be the transition from the food but i thought it also could be stress? Any Suggestions?

My Duke is 7 weeks old too. We put him in the crate at night and put it on our bed. He is also crated during the day too. My neighbor comes out 2x and lets him out during the day. He has taken pretty good to the crate. The 1st 2 nights were AWFUL... Now he cries for about 5 minutes and then goes to sleep.
I have a ? for you.. Has he peed in his crate during the day? Even with my neighbor coming 2 times he has still gone in his crate for the last 2 days. I feel so bad.

Actually duke has done pretty well in the crate concerning peeing/pooping. He just barks and whines at the top of his lungs when we put him in there to go to work. He pee'd the very first day he was in the crate and since then he hasnt peed or pooped in it. Crossing my fingers!!!! I am actually using a large crate without a divider. I come home at 1230 each day to feed him and let him out, at which time I immediately take him out side and he does his business.

Funny how we both got our boxers at relatively the same time and named them exactly the same!

No my Abbie hasn't gone to the bathroom in her crate yet thank goodness! She is left alone for 4 hours at the most during the day so maybe we catch her before that happens. She seems to be getting better at "holding it" until we are able to let her out. Another things we've been doing when she starts to cry is just talk to her to calm her down and she will go right back to sleep if she wakes up at 4 in the morning and at first i thought oh my goodness she has to go out now but if we leave her in there to go back to sleep she does with no accidents and as soon as we let her outside she goes potty.

try making his crate a fun place for him to be in. When i say kennel my dogs run in and wiggle there tale. Entise him with a treat everytime he goes in the crate. and make sure it is comfortable. also put a bone in there. mine like peanut flavored nylabones

I just caught this post. I have four boxers and they all sleep in the bed at night and they are all crated while I am at work during the day. Mine are older than yours and hold "it" for 8 hours now but when they were younger I also came home during the day. I didn't really have the crate problem because I have always had at least two (never just 1 at a time) so they were able to keep each other company. All my boxers love their crates once they are in there. I have one that I have to pull out from under the bed every morning to get her to go into hers. The crates are in my bedroom and in the morning when I say "Mommy has to go to work" they all know to go upstairs to the bedroom but then Penny runs quickly under the bed as if I can't see her. It is so funny.

Tess sleeps in my bed at night and is crated in the daytime. She never fussed much about being in the crate but she was 12 weeks by the time I got her. He's a little young to be away from his littermates and mother, so that might be part of the problem. Let others chime in here, but he might just grow out of it.

Do you give him a kong or toys in the crate? It helps if they have somthing to do when they're in there. Tess won't play with anything or eat when I'm not home, but it makes me feel better to put them in there. Just make sure it's not something that he can choke on (i.e. no real bones, things he could tear up).
