I feel like a proud mommy... My baby is finally lifting his leg when he goes potty! Beau will be 5 in July, why did it take him so long to reach this male rite of passage? I just figured he would squat the rest of his life...

Cody is a year and a half and he squats when he goes potty too. I always thought it was a little unusual, but he lifts his leg to "mark" trees, etc. Maybe he wants to be like Beau and wait till he's a little more mature before lifting his leg :)

Bruno is 4 and he just started lifting his leg, but only to mark things! He actually JUST started marking things too---I kind of assumed it was a confidence issue(?)

my dog bosley is 6 and still squats most of the time,i thought it was because he was neutered at just gone 6 months.

Haha Wilson mostly squats too! He lifts his leg to mark trees though (and lamp posts, fire hydrants, dumpsters, once even a "for sale" sign lol...).
*Sometimes* he'll lift to pee, but he'll only do it against the fence lol so I guess he's still marking kind of. He's turning 5 this June. He was neutered at about 5 1/2 months, wonder if that does have anything to do with it?

My boy was around 7-8 years old when he died and he never lifted his leg, he always squated (and let me tell you that dog had NO confiendence issues and he was a very dominant personality), he never marked either thank goodness. My boy now squats as well and does not lift his leg and does not mark.

Personally I've never quite understood why it's such a huge issue to people that their boy doesn't lift their leg. I've had foster dogs that marked EVERYTHING and let me tell you it was a constant battle that was a hard battle and not a fun battle to get him to STOP lifting his leg and marking things, so personally, having had it both ways, I'd much prefer the dog (male or female) that does not feel the need to mark things and/or lift their leg.

I agree - Harley is our first boy and I'm happy he doesn't lift. All three of the male fosters we have had did and they'd go on anything and everything that's at the right level in the back yard. I'm really hoping Harley doesn't pick it up from Turbo, who's a half and half kind of guy.

Beau is lifting his leg when he pees, but he is in the middle of the yard, not marking anything. Just wanted to clarify.

Charlie never lifted his leg once until he was well past 2 years. I was happy when he started but now I'm not so sure. He likes to pee on chalkboards outside restaurants. He likes to pee on store fronts. He likes to pee on the fruit on outdoor markets. That last one has got us yelled at a few times.
