My friends dog just starting having seizues about 6 weeks ago. The longest one was 5 minutes. After taking him to the vets office for a check-up and running a blood test (all was normal) they didn't really offer her any information on how to help him. All they said was that if a seizure lasted for longer than 5 minutes to bring him in.

Is there a test that would show what the seizures were being caused by? Isn't there some sort of medication such as phenobarbitol to give that would lessen the frequency of them?

I feel bad for the dog. Just thought that I could offer her some suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

My old dog Dizzy!!!

Was my Baby I know everyone has that pet that you look back on and think wow what a perfect dog/cat/ ect.... That was my dizzy boy! He was a beagle/terrier/dashhound mix

He was a beagle mix and if something made him nervous or scared him he would start convulsing (sp?) There was only one time when I thought he was in trouble and his tongue flopped out of his mouth!

Apparently this is common for a beagle mix.... They are very anxious dog's and they do have seizures or have seizure like symptoms just like my dizz!

My vet told us the best thing you can do is try to soothe them with your voice and let it run it's course DO NOT try to restrain the dog this will scare him even more, But if it does last for a while you should take him in because it can cause brain damage or something just as bad if I remember correctly! Hope I can help! It has been a long time! My dog used to have the "shakes" whenever someone came to my door!

He was abused before we adopted him and he never liked visitors or my dad! If something happened to that dog it may also be the cause of it!
