Bathing, how often?

I bathe my pups every 2-3 months unless they get into something they're not suppose to get into. Star I had to bathe more often because of her allergies. They were particularly bad in the fall so she was bathed about once a week with special shampoo. I had a book on boxers that said you should need to bathe but once every 3 months. I don't remember the name of it and it was lost somewhere in one of moves.

If he's getting a doggie smell I'd look at what you feed first. What food do you feed? Next I'd look at the shampoo you're using. Personally I like Earth Bath's Mango Tango and IMO it does the best in getting that smell off and lasting the longest. I then use their between baths spray fo the same scent to freshen them up in between baths.
I would not recommend weekly unless he has an allergy it's too drying to the skin and coat.

I feed diesel royal boxer puppy dry food and also raw chicken mince, with a dob of yogurt. He also has 1 or 2 chicken frames a week. He also has a skin allergy at the moment, vet says it is likley to be reaction from the grass or as pollin in the air, we are hoping it it seaonal. Vet also said very unlikey to be a food reaction as he is still a pup.

I give my dogs a bath once a month. I use Universal Medicated Shampoo from Vet Solutions-since my girl has skin issues and it works wonders. It works well on both pups. It is gentle for routine use.

Asia gets a bath once a month normally. This summer it has been more often because she LOVES to play in the water and we always figure while the hose is out and she is having a good time, might as well break out the doggie shampoo! Ha!

Just to clarify I did not say a food reaction just allf oods are not created equal and if you feed a crummy food it can cause them to smell. But Royal Canin is a very low quality junkie food and the "Boxer" is just a marketing gimmick, dogs are dogs when it comes to nutrition minus giant breeds. I would encourage you to check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com and choose a 4, 5, or 6 star food and see if that may help. Also you did not mention that there were environmental allergies and skin issues, that probably accounts for the smell. I would personally recommend fish oil and vitamin E to help with the skin issues, and instead of washing with a shampoo just rinsing with water DAILY to get the poolen off of the skin/coat and then wiping her down with a wet towel everytime she comes in from outside. I would also recommend a good shampoo such as Earth Bath or Blue Spa, they are more expensive but you do not use as much and they are much better for the skin and coat.

I also use Earth Bath Mango Tango for my boy. It was the first doggy shampoo I came across that I loved the smell of and it works really great too. I really only bathe him when I feel he needs to be. Sometimes it's a few months and there have been times (like when the snow melted and EVERYTHING was muddy) when I had to wash him 2 times in a week if just water wouldn't do the trick. But thinking about it now it's been probably 2 months since the last time he had a bath even after rolling around outside everyday and his coat looks and feels great and he doesn't smell at all.
