Question for all my boxer experts!!

When is a puppy old enough to get a bath?? I'd like to bathe Legend here soon..he's getting a little gamey!! He's 11 weeks old.

I gave Tiger his first bath at around 3 months old. I heard it said that it is better to get them used to it at a young age, but Tiger still HATES baths!! Won't even go near the tub!!!

In the meantime you can rub him down with babywipes. They work great on boxers because of the short hair, but be sure to get the extra-gentle kind; they also make them especially for dogs but they are more expensive. You can find those at PetSmart--hope you don't run into Bowie!

I know Markus had a bath the day I brought him home form the breeders and he was 8 weeks old. If he really needs a bath, I would give him one. Just be very careful that he doesn't get chilled. Make sure that the bathroom is very warm and dry him thoroughly afterwards.

Dry Well

I've given Diablo baths since he was 8 weeks (now 13 weeks). I use a plant watering can with tepid water, no tears puppy shampoo. We bathe 1 or 2 times/wk. And he loves the toweling part--he can chew the towel:D He's becoming desensitized to the whole thing, which is good. Easy

My Iris loves taking a bath. She loves taking a shower sometimes she jump in the shower when im taking a shower.
The other day my son was taking a shower, she jumped in the shower and jump out grabbed his shorts and towel and ran out.
It was very funny, we were just dieing of laughter.

I didn't think it was a good idea to bath your dog too often because of stripping natural oils from their coat. (Especially 1 or 2 times week!)

Our dogs probably get bathed about 4 or 5 times a year - unless of course they've rolled in something nasty.

They both get a good brushing every weekend and in my opinion they don't smell 'doggy'.

Also, I've asked non-doggy friends if my house smells and they always say no (maybe they're just being polite!). But my mother is a non-doggy person and she would DEFINATELY tell me if the dogs or my house smelt.

Use a chamois

I've been told by several boxer owners that a wet chamois is good to keep coats shiney, and also does a good job at reducing any "doggy" odors.

We bathe Dani once every month. Unlike Sophia, she hates the shower part (Sophia loved this!). The part Dani does like is how she feels after getting dried off. She romps around the house with her collar off. She feels super soft and cuddly then (she's normally just soft and cuddly).

Cheers,

Rocky loves the water. He is only 4 months old, but he has been aroud water ever since I have had him. I gave him his first bath when he was about 8 weeks old and he has loved it ever since. When I take a shower he is always popping his head in. When I am watering he attacks the hose and loves it when I spray him. This past Memorial Day weekend he went jet skiing for the first time and loved it. I bathe him every four to six weeks and he smells fine. No dog smell at all.

I gave Xena her first bath when she was 9 weeks, she had rolled in some poop so it was definitely needed!

I didn't really lather her up though, just kind of put baby shampoo in the water and petted her lots, swooshed it around. She loved being wrapped in the towel after, and smelled so good (for about 1 day...)
