my boy does the same ( 2 yo) i usualy come home at lunch , but becouse work load has changed i cant get home for that hour ( other family is home - plays with him - takes him out ) mind u , i work a 7 hr day - but when i walk in the door, Sam is waiting , if its a day like today ( bit stressed ) he sits , i pat his head , rub his back, say hi ( for about 1 min ) and come in ( all of us know in BOXER that was ignoring him )
try to take off my shoes - n coat - but down my bag - all the will getting talked to !
but n head wagging at me ! and god forbid ( he is not allowed to climb up my daughter is pregnant , so not even allowed to " invite " ) i dont put my hinny in a chair , so i can " invite " him to climb on me n kiss me hello , it has been a long 7 hrs mind u , i will get barked at , and woowooud, and leaned on , and if i " shush " him ( a command he knows well ) he will TALK BACK n a most def change of voice !
but we love it ! makes me so excited to come home and get such a greating ! my chow met me at the door , wagged his tail , i said hi , he went his seperate way - these guys are more like kids !! ignore them n they get louder !! mind u i dont reward pushy behaver - but i do let him talk to me , if he is not getting loud or pushy !! i love the attitude !

I had the same concerns about our dog Stella, she is 6.5 months old. She would bark for everything, but has now settled in to just barking for attention. When she wants to play she will come and bark at us or if she loses a toy under the couch she barks to get us to get it out for her. She lets us know if we are ignoring her. It usually happens when we are watching tv.
