Hello all I have a 3 month old puppy. Everytime I pick up his bowl to put food in he keeps barking. My question is will he grow out of this stage.

Sounds like he is overexcited. I would wait until he stops barking, and put him in the "Sit/Stay" position before I gave him his food bowl.

If he continues the barking, I'd leave the food where it is and walk away from him. He'll soon learn that he only gets fed when he stops barking and sits like the good wee boy we know he really is :)

Good luck! :)

Barbara is right it is excitement, Casper does it and Zebedee used to when he was a pup. They do grow out of it but I do wait until he's calmed down before I put the food down, don't want him thinking he got it because of his barking ;)

we did exactly what barbara said. she'd even start barking when i picked up the bowl. she now sits patiently at our feet and follows us to the spot where her bowl goes. it took our laila about a week to get the hang of it. but now you'd never know that she did that.

good luck!

I did the same method with Gauge. He would bark when I was getting his food ready so I just walked away. He followed me around as if to say what about my food. Gauge learned really quick not to bark if he wanted his supper!

Deacon was the same way he went nuts. So before we give him food we make him wait for 30 seconds before he can go and eat. This also stopped him from rushing in to eat before we could get out of the way. Also it has sort of stopped him from gulping down his food. teach them to sit and stay, when me move out of the area we say go eat and he does. Train them while they are young.
