I'm sorry if this is not in the correct spot. I went to training and could not find where to ask a question.

Sorry if this is long - but I want to give you a little history:
We brought Baylee home late Friday night (3.5 hr. car ride home) she did great. We recieved a call that my father in - law's health was not good. So we got up Sat. morning and drove 10.5 hrs. to Ohio. Again, she did great. Training is not going as planned, due to all kinds of family wanting to hold and play with her. We are doing some, working on crate training and appropriate play, etc. My problem is, I understand that they bite when playing, and we will use the "ignore" method. But when we are playing she barks excessively (sp?) I do not want a barking dog. I do know there are times she will bark, if she feels threatened, etc. But while playing, I want to get her to stop this behavior. I tried looking up the word bark on here, but have not found anything that really pertained.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks
shonna

If she is barking for attention, you simply have to ignore it. Don't even look at her. As long as you continure to ignore her, the barking will eventually stop.

Sometimes when my daughter and I take Cooper out back he will bark at us, even though we are playing with him. It's a mean bark too! I think he does it because he knows I will not be able to catch him, but he KNOWS he is doing something back because then he will not come back into the house easily.

If we are playing with him and he starts with the barking, I simply drop whatever we are playing with and tell him (don't laugh) "I'm not playing with you if you are being mean", and walk away and do something else.

9 out of 10 times, he goes and gets the toy and nudges it at me, but I do not give right in. He will keep nudging and then sit and wait. I tell him Good Boy! and do a 1/2 attempt play until I make sure he is not going to start with the barking again...

Oh, the 1 out of 10 times, he just goes and does his own thing and runs about the yard, plays by himself...

Boxers in general will be pretty vocal, especially when playing with other dogs. I frequently telling my dogs to go outside because they are so rowdy they are making in impossible to think, hear the TV, talk on the phone. Oh, and mine bark at me when they are board. I tried ignoring it and so far no luck. But I think we are coming around the corner because now I act like I think they are "telling" me they want out :evilicon: so I make them go out. Keeps me sane.
