this is so weird. my 12 wk old puppy barks at her food all of a sudden. she has metal bowls. she will drink out of her water bowl but goes crazy when her food is in the metal bowl. she leaps and hops around at the bowl growling. so i decided to put it on a plate, she was fine for a couple of days. now she barks and paws at this to. any ideas to what this behavor is?(so strange)

My Mason will growl at his food when we are about to give it to him, but once it's down he just dives in! He is 10 weeks old, though I am sure he has the appetite of an adult... 
You didn't mention whether she is actually eating the food or not? Have you tried getting your puppy to sit before you give her dinner? Mason has to sit and wait before he can eat. This might help calm her down a bit?
It is probably just a puppy thing. Mason gets easily distracted (there are 3 other dogs in the house) and so sometimes we have to feed him by hand a little or put something extra yummy in his dinner to keep his mind on the job in hand.
I'm a new owner too so I'm not sure how much help this is, but these are a few things we try to keep meal times relatively sane

Casper does this also. He'll eat some food, back off a bit then pounce back to the the bowl, bark and eat some more. Lola & Zeb did this also as pups, must be a play thing?

she is eating her food at intervals. she has to play a while then eat, then play and eat. i have not changed her puppy food since i got her, so i don't think it is the taste, unless she is bored with this food. i do not want to switch her though because she is still too young. she is eating though so i guess its just a puppy play thing at her eating times. i guess this is normal after hearing your replys. i LOVE this breed dog they are just so unique in everything they do. i wanted to mention that after i posted this i had bought layla a rawhide bone for teething and she displayed the same kind of behavor with this bone as well(she is too funny)
