i have to play with him all the time for him to stop barking. does any one know why he does this, or what i should do.

I have had the same problem with Napoleon since day one. He wants attention 24/7 and will do anything to get it.

I have learned through trial and error that ignoring him or walking away from him helps. I have also taught him to speak on command, we are working on the "hush" command now. That has also helped. Patience, patience, patience.

Good Luck!

Titan does this also- he thinks his life revolves around me and only me. If i try to sit and read the paper or anything he is constantly jumping and barking at me wanting attention--and heaven for bid you say the evil "NO" word. That just makes him bark more. We've started the "quiet" command also- if he doens't stop barking when I say quiet- then I leave the room, which ends his whole barking game. He's getting better over the last few months, but excitement is a lot of it with mine at least. Anytime he barks I usually have to leave the room, least it's a start for you to try--hope it helps some!!

I have had problems with this in the past with Storm and the only thing that worked was to IGNORE her! If she doesn't stop then I calmly get up and lead her by her collar out the door and shut it - this is done with out saying a word or looking at her. I only had to do it 3 or 4 times before she realised it was getting her nowhere. No more barking here!!! :)

You have to ignore him when he is demanding!! He is talking back to you and giving you heck until you cater to him...which can only create a bigger problem! Turn your back on him, crate him if necessary for quiet time. He will soon learn that barking gets him nowhere! Spirit is also very vocal with me, and I used that to my advantage and trained him to speak on demand...treated and praised him when he did. I will say "no barking" when he is demanding and he will stop, and he knows now that if he doesn't, he is crated for quiet time. If you continue to cave into his demands, he is, in essence, training YOU!! ;) Best of luck!
