..... Sorry if this is a long post but here goes.......I just read the last few posts and Spottys mom I am the last person to get caught up in religious fervor. I have a busy life and I don't have time to try and convince people who are not interested in switching to raw food. The majority of people who come into our store are deperate, their vets haven't been able to help them and most of these people have older or very sick animals. They think we have a magic pill or food, but we don't. The first thing I do is help them find a holistic vet or one that is open to alternative medicine and I tell them to first have the animal checked and then I tell them once they have done that they can come back and talk diet. Some people are just curious or they tell us a light bulb went off in their head one day and they knew about eating healthy for themselves and realized thier dog or cat should eat better. if they don't want to do the raw diet or cook we send them to shops that carry the better kibbles and if they say the discount bag they get at the discount store seems to be fine for their dog or cat so be it. We learned along time ago when to stop. This forum is for barfing and the people who check it out are curious, want more info on barfing, have just started barfing or are already barfing and here to help or answer question. I don't come to this forum because I already feed raw but I was curious on what went on here so I checked it out. and it's been interesting........As for salmonella and e coli,I asked my vet and a couple other holistic vets if they knew any cases of a dog or cat getting salmonella or e coli from a raw food diet( not rotten food out of the trash) and they couldn't really come up with one except my vet said there was a questionable case many years ago but really confirmed......... Now as far as kibble goes Natures Recipe had many years ago maybe 10-15yrs ago had to dump truck loads of kibble the was bad and animals were getting sick from it.that was a good kibble back then and they have tried to make a come back but not successfully. A few years ago Nutro had some bad food and had to yank it off the selves and dogs got sick from it. They moved quickly on it and saved their reputation. And this year natura(inova) had moldy food and shame on them they did not tell thier retailers and we were one of them. When our customers started bring back this moldy food we called the company and they said it was an isolated incident and they fixed the problem.well great why didn't they tell the retailers. They said the mold was not a dangerous mold so it was okay if the dogs and cats ate it.Needless to say it was very embarassing for us our customers trust us. we sent everything back, but we still sold kibble. We thught about it for a few months and finally 2 months ago stopped carrying kibble. although there may come a day when one of our meat companies will send us a bad batch. None of us are perfect we can only hope to make things better. Well my eyes are starting to cross as your might with this lengthy message. ......BUT...... I HAVE ONE.....MORE ...THING to say I went to the same breeder I got my last boxer from because the old girl 'Carob' gave me 14yrs of boxer love. Mona was just the unlucky one in the litter and my choices of vets and specialist probableywasn't a good one(they gave her so much stuff) I checked and the other pups were fine. it happens a pup in a litter might not be a healthy as the others. My friends tell me Mona was smart to pick me I was willing to do any thing to make her feel better. .....And come on you guys we all know boxers have a list of genetic problems. Resposible breeding will help our guys and I do believe diet plays a part in helping make them healthier. Boxer hugs and kisses from my boxer babies Mona and Chance. SLURP!SLURP!!
