bad gas!

Is there anything that I can do or feed my 2 year old, fawn, boxer to help his gas? I know that it's natural for all dogs, but he clears out the room whenever he passes gas. Isn't just something that we'll have to put up with? or is there something we can do to help?

Eukanuba...

I mentioned the gas to our vet, who is also a Boxer-owner. She says that she feeds hers Eukanuba, as that is the only thing she could find to help. I personally can't afford the stuff, so we just deal. :rolleyes:

My boy started out on Eukanuba, but that was horrible for him. We switched to Nutro and it got a little better, but he still has his awful moments. From the boxer owners I have spoken to the gas is a way of life for the fine breed. Best of luck in getting used to the one downside to owning a boxer :o

If you want to avoid gas, don't feed science diet . I fed that to Moose (rotti) and it was terrible!!!!!! I thought something crawled up there and died (pardon my description)!!! Tyson only has gas occasionally and its not usually life threatening. You can try a spoonful of plain yogurt in his food twice a week. good luck!

Through much trial and error, Nutro lamb and rice has proven to be the only food that keeps Mamie nearly gas free, although a couple of "sneakers" a day are unavoidable.

Try giving him a table spoon of plain yogurt with his dinner. It worked wonders with my two and I saw results immediately. And they absolutely love it.

I feed Jake on an elevated feeding station. Nothing Fancy, just milk crates covered in a towel for absorbancy, but it gets food and water at a more comfortable level.

I'm scared to death of Bloat, so it's more for that, but it does cut down the gas.

I agree with the elevated feeding station. It did wonders for my dog's gas problem. It has something to do with their short noses and taking in a lot of air when they eat. By elevating their bowls, they take in less air and voila! less gas. It doesn't completely do away with the problem, but for us, it was 90% better.

You can make your own or buy elevated feeders from Petsmart or RCSteele.com that also double as storage for their food. We think it's great. On RCsteele, check out feeders or storage categories.

I totally agree with the yogurt solution. Use the plain non-fat variety, though.

I know it is the Acidohpyllus (sp?) in the yogurt that helps the gas, so is it possible to give them the pills? I saw them in a health food store and wondered if that would work for Clarice. I feed her yogurt and it doesn't help. She eats Innova.
