Parker is now 14 weeks and ever since the day we brought him home he has had bad gas the kind of gas that burns the inside of your nose hairs. We changed his food at the recommendation of the vet, but his gas is still there. Is this indicative of the breed or should we concerned of a health issue?

From what I have read the breed is prone to bad gas but in Toby's case I have found that it often signals a food or treat that isn't agreeing with him. For him Canadae= no gas, Blue Buffallo= really aweful gas, Wellness= occasional gas without bad odor. As far as treats the only ones we have found so far that don't affect him are Old Motherhubbard and Wellness.

It's part of the breed some, food some, individual dog some. Personally once I switched to Natural Balance's Lamb Meal and Brown Rice or Duck and Potato no more gas in either of my Boxers. But I also use a digestvie enzyme (ProZyme) as well as a probiotic with each of their meals and every mixed together is what nixed it. Can't tell you the last time I smelled either of them, it's been months and it used to be a nightly thing.

You also didn't mention what food you feed? That may be part of it.

Completely Boxer Crazy
If you read enough threads here you will see that boxers are known for their gas problems. I must say that SuzyQ was worse when she was a pup, but still can clear a room on occasion. Can be quite embarrassing if you have company over and they don't know boxers.

Boxers are notorious for digestive issues. Some display it with noxious gas. Others get upset tummy's and some have loose stool or diarrhea.
Passing gas (with little to no odor is NORMAL). I think humans are supposed to pass about a liter a day. (I don't know who measures this??? LOL).

If the gas has some serious odor to it (like you described) then it has to be from something that is being eaten (some meds will cause this as well).

You might have to go through a few different foods to find one that isn't so disruptive to his system. Perhaps something a little more bland (vet suggested or not). Foods too rich (for that particular dog) can be the culprit. Changing foods from one to another too quickly can cause this as well as some other "issues" I mentioned.

You don't have to live with foul smelling gas if you don't want to but it can take some time to get rid of the culprit!

Call me crazy, but that's one of the traits of a boxer that I adore. That occassional reminder that they are right there beside you and feeling comfortable enough to let it all hang out. Plus it makes me laugh every time! It's like a creeper.....and then wham! Singeing of the nose hairs. I freak out and laugh, Lily looks at me all offended. The noisy one make me giggle too.

Nothing like a good poofter from a boxer!

Now the question we all are avoiding is...................

are all the boxers in the world responsible for global warming? LOL

gas

Oh the joys of boxers! Yes, gas is an issue. Keep trying to change his food; you may hit on a combination that works. Seems to improve with age (1 year) Good luck!
