We use the charcoal and mint bones when Hammer's gets REALLY bad. It got so bad that your hands would smell like poop if he licked you, and he doesn't eat poop!! I have no idea why his breath smells like it! I've heard the greenies work well too, but don't have any more info on them. You might do a search for greenies on the forums!

Teeth cleaning wouldn't hurt either if you haven't kept that up. Gum disease can make anyones breath smell like a garbage truck on a hot Texas day! Good luck!

We give our BooBoo fruit flavored low-fat yogurt which he thinks is ICE CREAM whenever he eats anything stinky.... he has fruity breath for a whole day after that.

Yummy Breath Biscuits:

2 cups brown rice flour
1 Tbl. charcoal
1 large egg, slightly beaten
3 Tbl. vegetable oil
1/2 cup chopped parsley
1/3 cup chopped fresh mint
2/3 cup milk

Preheat oven to 400. Combine flour, salt and charcoal. In a medium bowl, combine egg, oil, parsley and mint: mix well. Slowly stir in flour mixture, then add enough milk to make a dough the consistency of drop biscuits. Drop heaping teaspoons of dough about 1 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake 15 min., or until firm. Store cooled biscuits in tightly covered container in refrigerator.

Breath Spray:

1 cup of water
2 drops of peppermint oil 0 ones fit for human consumption/edible -- an extract may be used.
a spritzer bottle similar to those used for breath fresheners
Now - combine the ingredients and shake well. This spray may be used to fresh your dog's breath, particularly when company is coming to visit!

Mint balls:

1 cup of water
2 drops of mint oil -- again, an extract may be used
1 tennis ball
Now - combine the liquid ingredients in a bowl; roll the ball around in the solution for approximately 15 minutes until well absorbed; allow ball to dry. This is a great way to keep your dog's breath fresh on a daily basis and gives renewed life to an old tennis ball.

You might wanna try a minty rope toy, or get some doggie tooth paste and brush. I brush my boxers teeth about once a week. It really helps. And I've also heard that feeding a dry food only diet helps keep the teeth cleaner, and cut down on the smell.

I think if their teeth are clean, their breath doesn't smell so bad. Scrapper has very white teeth and of all the dogs we've had, he has very sweet breath. He chews a lot on those rope toys that help clean their teeth. In fact, he woke me up this morning by standing over me in bed and breathing in my mouth - whoa! that got me up, big flubbery Boxer lips dragging on my face - and I did notice that his breath was very good.

We just got done brushing teeth a little bit ago!! One had breath so bad you couldn't sit next to her! We use doggie toothpaste when their breath is terrible. Otherwise, I agree with everyone else, bones and the dental ropes do help!
