My 1 yr old boxer has terrible breath. I have heard this could be related to bad health, is that true? His gums and teeth look well and I feed him a high quality dry food. Any suggestions or advice would be great. Thanks

My vet told me that dogs shouldn't have really bad breath. If they do they might have a stomach problem. Take him to see a vet just in case.

Each time Barney's breath gets bad, it's due to a recurrence of his colitis.

Consider a visit to the vet.

Most definitely get a vet to take a look. If it's nothing there, then I would examine what your feeding him. What's he on right now? What type of treats do you give him?

we recently lost Shula to renal failure, and this was the symptom that should have alerted our vet. initially we were told it was just bacteria and given abx. two weeks later, the other vet in the office dx'd azotemia-toxic levels of ammonia and other toxin in the blood. he recognized the scent as the azotemia. shula only made it about 3 weeks. i recommend asking your vet for a metabolic profile just to be sure--especially with so many dog foods being recalled right now.
