bad appetite

Hi,
I'm looking for advice on what to do with a 5 month old boxer puppy who eats his poop if he poops in his crate. He shows no interest in what's on the ground outdoors, but if he poops while we are gone, he will promptly clean it up. Any suggestions? Several people have told me it is just a phase, and that he will grow out of it. (In the meantime, though, I'm not too crazy about his boxer kisses!) We've tried using ForBid (from the vet) but that didn't phase him. And it's impossible to tell when he's going to do it - today he pooped outdoors at noon when I was home, and then again sometime during the next 3 hours when I was gone.

i have a 5 month old too, and she always eats her poop in the crate. someone on here reccommended that i put pineapple on her food to make it taste worse...i also tried the deter pills, and it didnt work, so i'm going to try the pineapple and see where we go from there!

Good luck! That's a new one I haven't heard of before. Let me know if it works and I'll give it a try. The odd thing is that when Morgan does poop in the crate it's often a time when he shouldn't need to - like only a few hours after he's just pooped. Everyone says don't worrry, he'll outgrow it. But in the meantime, it's pretty yucky!

i know what you mean about the pooping at the wrong time...i will take Roxie out to go potty and poop, then take her directly inside and crate her, then i leave the house, take my daughter to the car, realize i forgot something, so i go back in the house (maybe a minute after putting Roxie in the crate) and she will have already pooped. i know it's separation anxiety, and we've put her on meds for it, but it hasnt started to work yet....im getting a little frustrated!!

I believe it's in instinct to stay clean. My GF read somwhere read that. The mother boxer will eat the puppies poop from the den to keep the area clean. Could be the pup's natural instincts.
