My Maggie had a severe reaction to a spider bite at 9 weeks. She'd just mastered going down the porch steps & plopped her paw straight down on a nasty fuzzy spider. She started yelping & her paw instantly swelled up. We took her to an emergenct vet, by then the swelling had spread to her poor little leg =( The vet gave her steroids & a couple shots of something or other. I had to give her Benadryl @ home for a couple days. She now chases bees & comes in with hives- more Benadryl for Maggie !!! We should buy stock in who ever makes the stuff =)

Glad to hear it was nothing very serious! We keep Benadryl on hand all the time..you never know..Bella loves to eat bees and hasn't had a reaction yet..Bubba will swell up and scare us to death after a few trips to the emergency vet now we can at least get some benadryl in him before we go..

My girl got stung by a bee a couple of weeks ago, and she's got really bad allergies in general. She was stung right above her eye and the whole thing swelled shut in a couple of hours. It was really scary, but a benadryl and a good night's sleep cured everything. She was back to normal the next day. It's really scary when it's happening, so I can relate. I'm glad to hear it wasn't anything serious! Take care!

Does the benadryl come in just tablet form or liquid too? I think liquid would have been easier to get into him once he started swelling.

beware!!!

A good friend of mine just lost her boxer boy to a bee sting!! He was the Daddy to my Jazzy. Anyway he loved to chase bees wasps any thing that flies, he caught one and it stung him in the throat he died as they were pulling into the animal hospitol. They were so upset because they always laughed at him when he chased bees. So be careful and watch closely!

I believe that children's Benedryl come in a liquid form. It would certainly be easier to get down them if their throat is swelling up.

Agreed. Thanks Jan. I've also talked to my vet who said she could get me an EpiPen for Loki that costs $100 and lasts 12-18 months.... very good deal considering the alternative.

Rebel loves bees! WHY? He was stung once on the lip and it swelled pretty big. A little benadryl and he was fine.

Funny story.....he was stung on his "jewels" once and boy was that a sight!:)

I was under the impression that dogs couldn't have an epi-pen..be sure to do some research first before you spend the money..I may be wrong here but please check...and if you find out let us know...
