Does anyone know if it is a good or bad idea to mix some bacon with dry food that my puppy eats. We never let him have any people food, but he seems crazy for bacon and is getting bored with kibble for breakfast so we thought of how to spruce it up. Can someone advise on whether it is bad for him and whether the bacon should be cooked or not. Thanks!

Gazou is a picky eater and I have used numerous tricks to get him to eat his kibble. I gave him 1/2 a bacon strip cut in small pieces and mixed in to his kibble he really liked it. I didn't give him more because it is really salty. I gave it to him cooked but he has also had 1/2 piece of raw (as a treat cuz he looked so cute while we were making breakfast!):)
I have also used a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, cottage cheese (1 tbl spoon), shredded cheddar cheese, a spoon full of baby food (strained beef). All these were little additions to make is kibble more yummy (one at a time!!)

P.S. Gazou is 16 weeks old.

two suggestions here;

1) puppies as they grow older will generally lose interest in breakfast...dogs in the wild do not usually eat breakfast like humans do. also a grown dog will eat less meals a day, so when a puppy, you might feed him 3x a day, but as an adult you can feed just once or twice... so it's not unusual that you boxer is loosing interest.

2) bacon in moderation i'm sure is ok. but do you really want to spice up his food every time he shows disinterest in it? He'll learn very quickly that he can get you to serve him the newest and the best add-ins and he doesn't have to settle for his kibble at all...
If you do really want to do add ins, then settle on a few of them and rotate them.

I don't think Scrapper knows that wild dogs don't eat breakfast - he starts out his day licking out the catfood can, then gets his chicken and cottage cheese with his supplements/vitamins added. Since he nibbles at his kibble the rest of the day, this is the only way I can be sure he is getting the proper amount of the supplements. Once a week I add a raw egg - I would guess that bacon provides a source of fat as well, though since it's smoked and preserved, it's probably okay in moderate amounts but not too much, just like in people.

Mooshy kibble!

My little boy (soon 14 weeks)started loosing interest in his kibble earlier this week, and didn`t want to eat it.. I took his food away after 20 min or so, and thought that he probably would be starving by lunch.. But no, he didn`t touch it. Not dinner either.. :confused:

So what I did was(I remembered this from our dog when I was younger), 30 min or so before it was time for his meal, I poured some wather in it, and then let it soak.
And you guessed it; he loved his mooshy kibble!!! smashicon Even wanted more when he was finished appicon

Hope he`s eating better!
