I am just wondering - does anyone's boxer seem to talk back when you give them commands? Sometimes when I give Ali a command, before she does it, she will talk to me. Not growl or bark, but just kind of talk like saying - why do I need to do that to get that yummy treat in your pocket? I find it funny sometimes, but other times, like at obedience class - I find it frustating.

I am wondering is this a "Boxer" trait or is it something that I need to work on in training...

No... that's a boxer trait, you're not doing anything wrong! They will back talk, cry, whine, and carry on... in fact, mine is looking at me getting upset because I'm looking at the screen instead of him. Welcome to the wonderful world of being owned by a boxer!

Back talk when told NO

Mia can not stand for me to tell her NO or to stop doing something. She does what I call back talk. Just like you said it is not a growl or a whine but talking noise. I even tell her do not talk back to me and she stops, or continues but walks into another room (like I can not hear her). I think she gets that from her daddy. LOL. I understand your frustration in obedience, she did the same thing.

LOL...Tae talks back all the time. Sometimes, when I'm trying to make the bed, I can see it coming. I say "off" and she's looks and me and emits what must be a "you make me get of this bed!"

I'm not sure talking back is a Boxer trait per se. I had a Husky when I was young and she did the same!

Skye does this too!!

One time we were eating lunch at an outdoor restaurant --minding our own business, when a "dog trainer" came up to say hi to the kids. Skye started up--wanting attention of course and the dog trainer told us to ignore him until he is quiet. I tried this several times but he's gone as long as 15 minutes before I finally give up. If you even look at him cross eyed he has to talk back. Not really barking so much as woo-wooing. I just accept that he has more to say than most dogs.

Oh yes, Tyler talks back, whenever I tell him no to something. I tell him not to sass his mother. He's a very vocal dog, which is nice when I feel like gabbing with him-it's kind of funny, I'll ask him a question and he barks, another question, another bark. DH has dubbed him "the mouth" ha-ha.

This is definitely a boxer trait. Bella absolutely has to have the last word! She will walk off moping when she doesn't get her way talking in "chewbacca" the whole time. No matter how long we argue, she will always make sure she gets the last word in!!! In fact, I can hear her talking back to dh now as he is getting her ready for bed!! Gotta love 'em....

I don't know if it's a boxer trait or not but Chaos and I used to have conversations, my DH would walk into the room and make fun of me because I was arguing with Chaos and I have to admit I felt kinda silly arguing with the dog. It was usually over something he wanted such as my arm covers that I didn't want him to have and I wouldn't let him win after all I control all of the fun stuff. :). Chaos and I don't argue very much any more, now he just walks away and huffs about it like he can't believe that I feel that way about it. lol I know this must sound crazy... unless you have a boxer.

Spud will always talk back to me when I tell him to get off the bed so I can make it ( he likes to dive under the covers as I'm trying to straighten them ) So, as soon as I tell him "off" , I get the chewbacca noise! He always looks like he's having to concentrate so hard to get his point across and he looks so serious, it just makes me laugh :)
