Baby (skin) has arrived

Congratulations also.....We too welcome our new addition skin baby....born on July 5th am.....We have two boxers of almost 2 and almost 3 years of age....Mom came home from the hospital with our little Joseph yesterday and the dogs have been very very curious....our young female especially....she cries everytime the baby makes a move or noise...Our male is pretty calm except for a few curious licks and cries....But our female just wants to get as close as possible and makes us a bit nervous...I have to raise my voice alot to get her to back off or to sit....Hope i'm doing the right thing....It was just our very first night last night...hope things get better.....Any comments or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.....Oh, by the way, we have a few dog gates that we use to block my wife and baby when she feeds....and when the baby sleeps in our room in his crib we block that from the dogs...thanks for the feedback.....

What I would try with your female is to leash her around the baby. Then when she's being wonderful you can praise her ecstatically, but if she inches up or starts acting up, you can put her into a sit without having to raise your voice with her. Then when she sits and acts sweet, praise again. In my experience, females just seem to be a bit more intense so it doesn't surprise me that she's curious about the baby and wants to investigate. She just needs to know from you what expectations you have for her around the baby. Good Luck and let us know how it goes!!!

BrodyBella, first off, Congratulations on the birth of your son. We have a 15 month old boy, a 2 1/2 old female and a 7 month old male. When we brought Cole home, Nestle was all over him. She would wiggle to the point we thought her tush was going to come off. We allowed her to lick his face and never said "No" we would say thank you, can mommy have a kiss. It is very important that your fur babies don't associate anything bad (getting in trouble) with Joseph. Try to include them as much as possible. Allow them to investigate as much as they need too and keep a close eye. We aslo gave Nestle a treat everytime she came into Cole's room so she associated his space as a good place. Right now to your furbabies, there is this new thing and they want to find out all about it. At night Nestle used to lay in our bed resting her head on the bassinet and just watch Cole.

It takes some getting used to and lots of new rules but to ensure a smooth transition, make sure it is positive as much as possible. Treat, treats, treats.

Hope your wife is recovering well. Don't worry too much. It will fall into place.
