Do you think that the food might affect her almost three weeks after she started eating it? It's the same food Ellie's been eating since we brought her home and this only started a few days ago.

That could be the case. My grandpup, Brutus, suddenly became allergic to his food after doing well on it for over a year. He was vomiting and had explosive poopy and was rushed to emergency care. After hydration, my son Chris started him on a bland chicken and rice diet. He then gradually reintroduced his old food, and the problem started again. Brutus had a total change of diet, and is now doing well. Sorry I can't remember the name of the new kibble.

I sure hope Ellie feels better soon.

I hope your baby is feeling better! I too had a problem with the food I was feeding Iris. She was on a super-high-quality-food made of Trout, and all natural ingredients. She seemed to be doing great on it, her coat was shiny as ever, etc. Then, she started showing signs of almost being poisoned! You know..."not okay poop", small seizure/muscle twitches, dilated pupils, etc. I immediately switched her food to lamb and rice with no corn, wheat or by-products. She has been totally fine ever since. I guess what I'm saying is, it couldn't hurt to try and rule certain things out, like her food, for instance. I sure hope she's okay! The little cutie-pie.

Many times with intolerances/allergies the body doesn't react immediately. It needs a certain amount of exposure (could be brief or could even be a year or more) until it triggers a response. I would definitely see how she does on a bland diet and if you find that she does well when you mix her kibble back in that's probably not the issue. However, if she has a negative reaction when you mix her kibble back in and gradually try to switch to all kibble than I'd definitely try feeding her something with a different protein & grain source. Failing that, you might find it's the grains (any type) that her system doesn't tolerate well. I wish you luck, and can imagine how happy you are to have Ellie home again. :)

Throwing Up

I just read this post and just posted one myself about throwing up. My Neala has been doing that for 4 days now. She had blood drawn and it came back with positive enzymes indicating Pancreatitis. I have been messing with her food too, switching from Canidae to raw. Since she's white, she's a bit more sensitive. Did they check this out for Ellie? I wonder if it could be that. They put Neala on a really soft diet, EN Rx food and some Reglan.

No, they didn't check her Pancreas but if she goes back in I'm sure they will. Thanks for your input because at this point I feel as though I'm grasping at straws.

Are white Boxers more sensitive to certain foods?

So my vet has called twice today to see if Ellie is making any improvement. They did agree that putting her on a very bland diet is the next step and if she throws this food up then we have to take her back in and they'll be admitting her again and doing more testing including a scope.
What we're doing now is what 1FlashyFan and a few other members have suggest. A bland diet and very small portions every 1 1/2hrs. Ellie has had two feedings(2tblsp) of the canned science diet(ID) and has kept it down so far. I'm to keep increasing it slowly and if she doesn't throw up start mixing her kibble in Sunday night. If she starts to throw up when we put her back on the Wellness then we have to change her food.

I just want her to eat and be back to her normal self. Thanks SO much to everyone for their support and suggestions.

I'll keep you updated!

I just caught up with this and wanted to share our experience.

When we brought Dempsey home until he was around 3 1/2 - 4 months, we had problems. Loose stool that would, on certain days, become mucousy or bloody diarreah. He would be come VERY lethargic, and occassionally throw up. This happened 4 times before we found the problem!! It was very scary each time, especially the one time we had to leave him there over night! They told me it could be parvo, etc, everything that could make you terrifed for your baby! I went to three different vets and finally we narrowed it down to a food allergy. He ate Science diet for about 3 days and started feeling much better, so I tried to find a food with little ingredients. (He was on 2 1/2 bags of Wellness before he reacted to it). Wellness Simple Solutions, he never did well on - I think (don't know for sure) that it was the oatmeal. Now he is eating California Natural Lamb and Rice and is doing great! He gets the occasional loose stool from stealing little treats he shouldn't, but other than that, nothing! He eats Lamb and Rice training treats, and I am picking up a bag of Naturals Balance today to see if that will be a good rotation food. So he doesn't do well with Oatmeal, and I think he is allergic to wheat. I figured this out through elimination. It was very frustrating.

If this is the case with your baby, then I truly hope it helped. I suggest try the California Natural Lamb and Rice. The reason for Dempsey's nasty diarreah and lethargy was because his intestines would become inflamed. The pain he wass in made ihim lethargic and depressed. I really hope you get this figured out! <<<<Healing vibes>>>> Good luck!

Our boy Jake has Pancreatitis he will be 4 yrs next week. We went through
all of the test when he was 15 months old but if was not until 6 months ago he was diagnoised maybe because we finaly changed vets.
Jake had most of the symptoms that Dempsey had.
We feed Jake 4 small meals a day Solid Gold Dry Holistic with water, mixed with a little caned Wellness Turkey,Oceanfish & Sweetpotatoe.
We have to watch the fat content & his calories.

Ellie seems to be doing great and is back to her old self.
Dempseysmama, I will definitely keep this in mind because it sounds like the same thing that Ellie went through. I'll have to watch closely as we've just put her back on her food(Wellness Lamb and Rice) totally yesterday. We were working her back onto it slowly. If she starts to go thought the same symptoms again I'll know for sure that it's food related. It's hard to believe that food could cause all these symptoms, your poor baby. Ellie ended up staying in a total of 4 days, having to go back in when we found out she wasn't better. It's so scary and having a sick puppy is very stressful and you feel so helpless when it can't be fixed right away.
Though the vet thought they ruled out allergies but you never know.

Thanks for your concern and sharing your experience, everything helps!

Oh, I posted a video of Ellie in the picture section, you can see by that her energy is fine so far. Lets hope it stays like that!
