Shelby does not get along with any other dogs, she is a 7 month spayed female....she will run up to them slap them with her paws, or mount them and pin them down. It does not matter how big or small they are she does the same with all dogs. What can we do to break her of this habit and someday allow her around other dogs. We need help as the rest of the family has dogs and they all get along.
Thanks

Sounds like Shelby is a typical boxer, just wants to play. Angus did the same thing every time if we let him. Our trainer suggested a collar grab, or scruff grab, like the mother would do when they are younger. Just grab Shelby by the scuff and hold her in a sit for 10 seconds or so when she is being too rough. We found, at least with Angus, he learned that being too rough resulted in this action and was a little less agressive each time. Don't know if this the best course of action but it did work for us.

Good luck :)

If she isn't biting or attacking the other dogs then I'd think she is playing albeit too roughly. She needs to learn play-manners, something that starts being taught in the litter. If she isn't injuring the other dogs she does this to, and you don't think her intent is to injure them, then let them teach her a time or two how much they like her play. One of my fosters was very rough (still is with new dogs) in her play. She mounted, boxed, trampled and pulled on ears and jowls. I chalked most of it up to her being deaf and not learning in the litter what it means to play nicely because she'd never have heard a puppy's yelp nor her mama's growl. She is also dominant but not in a threatening manner. She just doesn't know how to behave like a little girl should at first. She's learned a good bit through the other dogs teaching her what is and isn't acceptable. Basically, I don't think there is anything YOU can do to mold this behavior except to scold her when you see her doing it. However, this could backfire and make her think that playing is bad, not just playing roughly. I prefer to leave such matters up to the dogs to sort out and only intervene when things look like they may become serious enough to cause bodily injury.

Thanks for the help. The problem with that is that two of the dogs she is around are small dogs and one is 15 years old. Not good dogs to teach shelby a leason. She starts with a new trainer soon hopefuly he can help, otherwise we will have to keep searching for a new friend for shelby that can teach her what is right.
