Awful Gas!

Our boxer has HORRIBLE gas! He has been on the same food for years and the same treats for a while. We just started giving him a spoonful of yogurt with meals because we heard that helps. Any other suggestions?? He's always had a little gad, but now it's sooooo bad.

No suggestions, but I feel your pain. Cash will let one rip, then turn around and look at his butt like "what was that?!" . It can be funny, but it does get old. I'm anxious to see if anyone has any suggestions, but I'm thinking it's a trait of the boxer since they are a brachycephalic breed.

I know what it's like - pure biological warfare! My vet told me to give him 2-3 tablespoons yoghourt daily in his food and it helps. It took about 2 weeks to really make a difference but I'd recommend increase the dose and stick to it for at least 2 weeks. Still today Buddy lets every now and the go of one awful killer-dose, especially when he is in the car and gets excited, but other than that he is doing fine.

The food he eats, and how fast he eats are both factors of gassiness :p If he eats fast, try putting "obstacles" in his bowl to slow him down a bit. If he's been on the same food for a while, maybe he's ready for a change

Of course, boxers will always be a LITTLE gassy... their short muzzles cause them to take in air when they eat.

No Corn

My Oskar had horrible gas too. I used to always make sure he didn't leave a pile somewhere it was so bad. I talked to the Blue Buffalo rep and they said he was getting corn from the Purina Pro Plan I was blending with. So now he is eating Blue Buffalo and Chicken Soup for the Soul. It took about a month - but his gas has gotten much less frequent.
