I just wanted to share some information I just got from my vet. I noticed immediately 2 days ago that Maddie's ears were hanging funny when she woke up that morning- normally her ears hang very well, but one was hanging more to the front, the tip hanging almost right above her eye. Both ears didn't look right, but the right looked worse than the left. I didn't think too much about it because she is a puppy and I know these things can change from day to day. We went to the vet this morning for her third round of boosters and rabies shot. I was just about to mention her ear and ask about massaging when she said that Maddie has a yeast infection that is in her right ear and just starting in the left. I then told her about what I had noticed and she said this is most likely the cause. I just wanted to share this with everyone because this probably would have went unchecked had we not have been going anyway for the shots. We haven't noticed her scratching at her ears or noticed any odor from them- just the funny way they've been hanging. Have a good day everyone!

Cooper has a ear yeast infection also. He has natural ears to. I guess this is pretty common in dogs though, I have two friends with dogs (a chow and a hound) and they have had the same problem. The chow almost went deaf before they found the infection! We discovered Coopers about two weeks ago at a checkup also.

Thanx for the info audie! I had no idea that boxers could get yeast infections in their ears. That's something we'll definitely keep an eye on with our Maddy!:D

Is there anything else that can indicate they have a yeast infection? Tyson has one ear that the crease is not correct and it will not stay no matter how much i correct it. Just wondering if there is something i should be looking for inside the ear. :)

"ear beer" for yeast infections

Tyson has natural ears and when I took him to the vet to be checked out and meet the new doc the week we adopted him, he told me about this concoction that we use in Tyson's ears if they start to develop a discharge and "ick" in them.

He called it "ear beer" and it's 3 parts rubbing alcohol to one part white vinegar. You just put it in the ear (a small amount) and it cleans it and helps get rid of any infection.

In our climate (Charleston, SC - hot, humid), natural eared dogs are more prone to getting ear infections, according to the doc.

Have a good day, everyone.

We thought Dakota had ear mites at first, but we couldn't get rid of them. So off we went to the vet to find out about yeast inf. in his ears too. I guess the climate in FL and natural ears are condusive to this, from what I understand. Just another $100 trip and a car ride for him so he's happy now, until I put the medicine in his ear, he sits and growls at me.

Signs?

What are some signs to look for so I can even have my son paying attention too...We have this stuff called Epicot or something like that that we got from our vet to clean Lexus' ears every couple weeks...She DOES NOT Like this done, or we can pay the vet 12.00 each time we want it done...Just wondering what to look for that would show some signs of ear problems....Thanks....:p

Both our Boxers have cropped ears and they also can get a yeast infection. Did your vet give you clotrimazole? My male always has his head in the shower and it seems that his left ear is the one that has the problem. He puts his head on the floor and rubs his ear to try and itch it, that is my big clue that he needs medicine. We have an earwash but the homemade one with alcohol and vinegar would be great also.

Well, Cooper had no signs of his infection, the vet found it. Lucky for me he does not mind the med., he just shakes his head really hard after I put it in!:p
