Hey guys
I really need advice as I'm at a total loose end here.
I have a 9 month old female boxer who was Neutered in feb/march. She is the most gentle loving dog, loves cuddles and claps and scratches etc She is very fast at learning too she will do commands faster than my older 2.5 year old boxer male, she will sit right away when I bring the lead out, she will learn tricks and commands in a half hour at most and is responsive to both play/love and treat reward tactics.
I had her crated for a while until about 6 months of age I started slowly introducing her to sleeping with her brother at night, she didn't like the crate from the get go. At first I thought it was puppy crying but the crying and whining went on for months and the only way I could leave her in the crate at night was if I sat with her while she was in the cage until she fell asleep and then tiptoe off to bed.
At about 6 months she had began tearing up everything and anything that was inside the crate, any bedding any toys and I also noticed her excessive licking the metal bars. I changed her diet and food a lot but this progressed further. In the end I phased her in to sleeping in my bedroom with her brother on the floor on their own bed. I used the crate when I had to leave and she would be in there for at most 2 hours.
Other times when I had to work both dogs were taken to a dog sitter well socialized with other dogs and played all day.
When I would come home - if she had been crated - she had managed to push out the bottom of the crate (the plastic bit) so that she was sitting on the metal grill itself, a lot of the times she would have done the toilet in the crate, I could hear her barking and howling outside when I pulled up and I tried everything. I put her in the crate for ten minutes at a time and left to go in the other room rewarding her when I got back, I tried increasing the time but nothing worked. In the end I left her in the living room with the older male for short periods and came back to total destruction. She would pee on the couch, poo and pee all over the floor (despite the fact I walked them regular and took them to the park for an hour before leaving they were also in routine of going out for the toilet minutes before I left. She would chew and destroy everything and anything in sight - even things I didn't think were possible to get at she would find a way. DVD's Playstation games, bedding, couches, her crate, cabinets - everything.
I stayed with my partner every weekend and the dogs would be allowed to sleep in the kitchen on their bed - this went fine for a few weekends and then the behaviour returned. she managed to open a cupboard and destroy cocoa powder, icing sugar, mini snickers/mars/bounty bars, eggs, anything on the worktop - even if it was at the very back she would manage to get at it, phone cables, wallpaper, bins - you name it she's ate it. She destroyed a canvas bag - ate most of it - contents included liqourice etc and she was sick full snickers wrappers, mars bar wrappers etc - so she had actually ate the bloody things whole! I've caught her with pins screws, plastic, metal and everything - there is no 'favorite' thing for her she just destroys anything she sees.
Now I have moved in with my partner the behaviour has gotten worse, she is now able to get at more things - she has tore the lino up from the floor and ate it, destroyed her rubber mat for under the bowls of food and water, she has demolished the wallpaper, torn down old phone cables - the list goes on.
I walk her, I take her to the park until she's so tired she's lying down on the grass panting and too tired to run anymore - most of the times she takes her time even walking - Once I had a migraine and took her to tire her out, I spent a good 45 minutes and she was knackered - i stopped at asda for groceries and then on the way home I had to stop at the chemist for migraleve. There was a small que - maybe five ten minutes - I came back out and she had detroyed the groceries and had moved on to an empty energy drink can which left her with cuts to her face and mouth. She has an abundance of toys, toys in every shape and size, her favourite is a white bone which is hard material and tastes like chicken apparently. She will chew on this all day when I'm around and I thought it was perfect that we had finally found something to transfer her on to...
But the behaviour is getting worse.
I tried Bachs rescue remedy and that worked for a week, but not anymore.
Even if we walk to the shop and back which is ten to fifteen minutes - she manages to get another massive chunk of lino up!
I don't want to muzzle her and it would tear me a part to have to part with her. I love her so much it would kill me but that's all anyone is telling me to do. Im crying even writing this and so im desperate to find another option.
I have tried being angry, I've tried pinning, I've tried ignoring, I've tried being calm, but she knows that she has done wrong immediately - as soon as I walk in. Then she has her tail between her legs and is cowering and shaking and it's awful - I hate to see her like that when she is so loving and affectionate every second of every day.
Please can someone help me, I literally don't know what to do anymore and the behaviour is getting worse. The best solution I had was to have her in the same room with me when she slept and just delt with the crate business when I went out but I don't want to leave her in a crate either if all she's doing is making herself sick and hurting herself trying to chew out...
