I have been working on Roxannes "Greet and Meet" skills. She has such a hard time controlling herself that she usually scares people off. Some people will change the side of the street they are on to avoid her, They are not sure especially when she lunges at them, not aggressively but for play. So now when someone approaches I make Roxanne sit until they either "Greet and Meet" or walk away. Well, today we were approached by a gentleman with two big poodles, and two children with cerebral palsy, one in a wheelchair. Well, I had Roxanne sit while they passed on the sidewalk. The two poodles were jumping and barking while Roxanne just sat, I couldn't believe it. He apologized for his dogs behavior and commented on what a well behaved dog i had. I was stunned!! A few weeks ago she would have been a spastic mess! I am not sure if it was the training or her sensing that the children were delicate and she needed to be careful. Anyway, I am so proud of her she is finally becoming a young lady, not the terroizing teenager I had a few months back!!
