Are boxers forgiving?

As I type this, Zeus is being neutered. He was so excited this morning when I took his leash out of the closet. He said bye to daddy, shook his butt all the way to the car, jumped in, stuck his head out the window, and just enjoyed going for a ride w/his lips flapping in the wind. He was even excited going into the vet's office cause he knows everyone there just love him! Little did he know what was coming. As I signed the consent forms, I wondered (& still wonder) if he'll be upset w/me when I pick him up later today. Will he never want to get in my car for fear of what's to come? Will he give me that "look" (droopy, sad-eyes...why mommy?!)?

Yes, he probably will give you that look with those sad eyes. But I've never seen a boxer that could carry a grudge for long. Most of what you'll see when he gets home will be the aftereffects of anesthesia. By the time that wears off, he should be back to his old self.

I felt the sme way when I took Joe to be neutered. When he was younger I always day boarded him at the vets office, so the day of his neuter I was worried that he would never want to go back. He loved it there and I have to tell you that he still does! When we drive up he can't get out of the truck fast enough. I don't board him any more, but when he goes for his visits he is just a wiggly as ever!

Don't worry...he will be just fine ;)

Junior was so knocked out that when I picked him out that he slept in the backseat of the car (parked in the garage) for an hour until daddy got home to help me get him out!

But, he never seemed to be upset or angry... just VERY sleepy. He got angry though when we had to use an ecollar on him because he wouldn't stop licking the stitches. He would look at me then start banging his head against the wall to get it of. SO, we felt so guilty we took the collar off and one of us sat with him for the whole weekend making sure he did not lick. How is THAT for pathetic???

Hope he comes through with flying colors... he will be kidney beaning in no time soon!

I think they WILL forgive you it is just that they make us feel so bad! Chase is getting neutered Sept. 11th....

Boxers are very forgiving as I discovered when Shelby had to have surgery to repair a torn cruciate ligament in her hind leg.
Do not fret, your boxer boy will be doin the wiggly dance for you again very soon.:)

weird, Pharaoh is going through the same as well right now. They have to dig deeper though cuz one of his testicles is still lodged in the abdomen area. He left the house, rode to the vet and entered the vet. He was happy the entire time. He was wiggling his butt as I left him at the vet. I hope he calms down after this at least. I also hope he has no bad feelings after this as well.

Well, I picked Zeus up from the vet about an hour ago. He was happy to see me, and showed it by wiggling his butt. At first he seemed not to be phased at all, then he slowed down the wiggle. When we arrived home, he went in his crate, laid down, whined a little. I had to come back to work so I don't know if he fell asleep. I hope he did, mostly I hope he's not licking himself. Thanks to all who responded with kind words, and reassurances that he will be back to normal and holding no grudge against his mommy. :)

Mac was nuetered the day he was 4 months old. My husband took him and Michael & I picked him up. I expected to find a sleepy, drugged dog but Mac came out flying, just like normal. He didn't sleep much that afternoon and night lilke the vet said he would, everything was just normal. I had to look at the rash the staples made to make sure he really had surgery.

I still haven't had Jazz spayed yet because it was so hard keeping those two apart and I know spaying is going to be harder on her than neutering was on Mac. I am waiting for cooler weather so I can put Mac outside more while Jazzy heals. Hope she has as easy time as Mac did.
