Just wanted to see if all boxers are gassy? Kosmo seems to pass gas constantly and it stinks! Any suggestions on how to remedy this? Misery loves company!

I asked my vet about whether it could be his food and if I should change it but he said not to change. He said unfortunately, its a catch 22-- the better the food the more gas. Do you find this to be true? He is on a holistic puppy food.

Thanks,
Stinky in Ohio!

OK, contrary to popular opinion in BW our 2 boxers do NOT suffer bad gas.

Yes, they do occassionaly have gas (very rare occasion), but usually after a veggie meal with offal or sometime like that.

We now feed BARF to our dogs & before that a mix of kibble, veggies, meat & rice, either way we have had no change in that area.

I do think it maybe diet related though with Kosmo. It may be only 1 thing in his diet though..... does he get a varied diet or just kibble? Does he eat grass or poo (yes some dogs eat poo......yuk! )?

I don't believe that the better the food the worse the gas & I don't think it is normal to have gas as bad as you are describing, so I would look at changing something??

Let us know how you go

Gas

Our two can clear a room. LIke people, their gas is probably related to diet. We feed commercial food. Our Veterinary suggested a change in diet.

The other side of this is the dogs are no worse than the human kids.

Hehe... Lou just farted., LOUD. He's gassier than other dogs I've had, I guess. I've never had an indoor dog before, so maybe I'm just more aware of it than I was with previous dogs. It's part of the boxer charm ;).

Good to know that I'm not alone! I'm sure it is diet related but Kos is doing so well growth-wise that I don't want to switch foods. The gas stinks (and yes, is sometimes LOUD) but I can live with it since I know he is so healthy. He has gained 10 lbs each month for the last two months and looks great.

My husband and I just laugh our heads off when he fumigates the room from the opposite side. At least I always have someone to blame any gas I might have on!!:D

I don't believe the better the food the more the gas...that just doesn't make sense.

However, My two get a little yogurt (1 tablespoon) with dinner, that helps a lot.

Also, the food dishes are raised up on milk crates so they can eat at a more comfortable level. makes a BIG difference.

When Lexus farts, she turns around and looks are her bootay like what was that, then she bites at it, it's too funny. The yogurt will help a TON.
