Feeding after pancreatitis is better

Thanks for your kind messages. It was so hard having her away at the pet hospital last night. She is going to have to stay until at least Thursday, but we did go and visit today. (3 times). She already has her energy back and there was a note on her door tonight that she needs two people to walk her...one to hold the IV bag and one to manage her on the leash so she must be feeling a little better. We hope.

does anyone have any feedback on the food they are using after pancreatitis.

Thanks,
Kelly

I have all kinds of ideas for pancreatitis. ;) The food we have Zeus on (and Titan too since she's a bit chubby :D) is Solid Gold Holistique Blendz. It is very low in fat and recommended for pancreatic pups. Then, after a month or so we added in Nature's Variety Raw Chicken and Turkey pre-made medallions. They both love the mix and are doing great on it.
Also, as mentioned before, it is equally important to keep the diet low in sugar as well as fat. Diabetes is another possible side effect of pancreatitis. For treats we give Zeus ice-cubes, apples, carrots, and raw bones (NO marrow, scoop it out - too much protein for the pancreas). We have to go easy on banana's as there is more sugar in citrus fruit.
Okay, hope that helps. I found all of this information out from BW and from my veterinarian so I'm happy to pass along the info.
Also, always mention your pup has pancreatitis when given medication as the organs are more sensitive now. I know Zeus can't take Rimadyl medication for sore joints because of the pancreatitis.
Good luck! Before long you'll be so adjusted you'll forget your "kid" has special needs. ;)
