Boxer Booster
Hello everyone! This past weekend, we picked up our new puppy, Apollo. He is a 15 week old, fawn boxer with a whole lot of personality. He's doing pretty well on potty-training and actually will sleep through the night, but now that it's getting cold and snowy (we're in Nebraska), he sees me putting on my coat to go outside to go potty, he squats in the living room and tries to get his business done before I get the chance to take him outside. Has anyone run into this before or have any suggestions? I just clap to startle him and he pinches it off long enough for me to get him outside. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks all!!!

kneesaa was doing that for awhile...in the middle of the summer! so what worked for us was praising her when she went outside...and keeping her preoccupied while we put on our shoes or something...also i say to her...kneesaa, wanna go outside...and she runs to the door...then i talk to her while i put on my shoes...and tell her to sit while i put on her leash...that way she's totally preoccupied while everyone gets ready to go out!!!

that's the same thing i do w/my zeus. i've learned eventually that i just need to be consistent in taking him outside (like every hour or so, depending on how much he drinks and eats). he's FINALLY putting the two together though, as i ask him to go potty, i'm reaching for the doorknob and he understands! the few times i was not able to get him out fast enough, though, he's squatted right in front of the door...so i guess it's my fault i didn't get there fast enough! but at least its near the door and not on my "nice" area rug! i do have a difficult time if it's raining outside; he just puts on his best sad puppy face and tells me he'd rather be inside. but if i'm getting wet, he can get wet too!!!

AS I REFER TO HIM "MY LITTLE MUTT" OUR 6MO OLD BOXER WAS EASY TO HOUSEBREAK AS WELL. A FRIEND OF MINE WHO ALSO HAS A BOXER SD TO PUT BIG 'OLE JINGLE BELLS ON THE BACK DOOR, AND SWIPE HIS PAW ON IT EVERY TIME THAT YOU TAKE HIM OUT TO POTTY. EVENTUALLY, PUPPY WILL CATCH ON, AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HEAR THOSE STUPID BELLS ANYWHERE IN YOUR HOUSE. THEN YOU DONT HAVE TO READ YOUR PUPPY'S MIND, AND IT MAKES LIVE A LITTLE BIT MORE ENJOYABLE. SMOKEY CAUGHT ON IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS, AND HAS NOT HAD ANY HAS PEED IN THE HOUSE MAYBE 2 TIMES SINCE AUGUST. WE GOT HIM AT THE END OF JULY , HE WAS 12 WKS OLD. NOW SMOKEY RINGS HIS BELLS JUST TO GO OUTSIDE. HE ALSO KNOWS HOW TO WAIT.. YOU KNOW HOLD IT UNTIL I CAN TAKE HIM OUT. YES HE GETS IMPATIENT SOMETIMES, BUT IT WORKS. GOOD LUCK TO YOU TWO. REMEMBER, JINGLE BELLS ON THE BACK DOOR!!
