just when i thought we were getting the training thing down...we got terrential downpours for a week - we're still getting them!

he refuses to go outside when its raining. no thunder, no lightning, just rain. he straightens his legs right out and won't go anywhere. i find it kind of comical, but just when i'm not looking he'll go have an accident somewhere. not comical.

any tips? i'd really appreciate any ideas.

I dont really have any advice but to let you know I share the same experience. Jazz LOVES the water-pools, ocean, sprinkler. But will NOT go out in the pouring rain. It worries me-I know she needs to go! I finally got her to go in the front yard on a leash. She would NOT go in the fenced in backyard by herself. Have you tried that? I think Jazz felt better that I was getting wet too.:D

Tucker is exactly the same way . The worse part is we don't have gutters on our new house yet, so even if it's barely raining, he thinks it's pouring like crazy (coming off the roof). We either let him go out in the garage and then rinse it away or out on the covered front porch where the rain rinses it away.

It's funny because I call him the Inst-dry dog. All I have to do is rub him down once with the towel and you'd never guess he'd been wet a minute before. It's not like he's sopping wet and freezing from going out to potty. I guess it must be one of those silly boxer hang-ups.

Good Luck and let me know if you figure out how to make them go outside in the rain!!

umbrella

It might sound silly but my Jasmine used to hate the rain too. I tried everything but she refused to go outside. I even tried sticking her in the bathtub which she loves and then slowly turing the shower on but that didn't work either. Finally I tried an umbrella. She loved it! She couldn't figure out how she was outside, in the rain, and not getting wet. Eventually she would wander out from underneath the umbrella and go potty in the rain. I don't even need the umbrella anymore but that's how she got over it. Now she loves to go outside in the rain. She rolls around and gets covered in mud which I think is worse than not going in the rain. Giving her a bath three times a night after she goes outside is not very amusing to me but I know she enjoys it.

Ruby doesn't like the rain either, which can be a problem when you live in a rainforest, ha ha! What we usually do when it's pouring (she doesn't seem to mind a little rain) is drive her to where we usually walk, then let her out. She is usually a little reluctant, but then she runs around really fast, does her thing and jumps back into the car. So far this has worked great. Also, once it stops raining and the weather is nice, she doesn't let us get away with a short walk. She'll stand there with the stubborn face on and locked in one spot. She won't budge until you go the other way so she knows she isn't going home right away evilicon
