Apollo has heart problems...

Hello everyone,

Please send all of your good boxer vibes our way. Our little man is in a struggle right now. He's currently at K State vet hospital getting well. His heart is enlarged due to an arrythmia (sp?). The normal beat for him should be 80 bpm and his is 240 bpm. They need to find the combination of meds to lower his rate and then figure out what caused it. It's crazy, he's not even 2 years old yet and has heart trouble! We are optimistic but need to be prepared for anything. They don't know that it's cardiomyopathy or not, until they get his rate lowered and run some more tests. We just want him back home and be able to get all of those sloppy boxer kisses again! Cami is affected as well. You can tell she's looking for him all the time and just doesn't seem to be herself. Hopefully if all goes well, we'll have him home by this weekend and get back to normal. He's a strong guy and with the exception of his heart, he's as healthy and happy as ever! Has anyone had any experiences (good) that could also help our attitudes? Again, any good vibes are appreciated! I'll keep you updated.

I'm very sorry to hear about Apollo. I'm sure this is a very scary time for you but rest assured there are folks on this board that will help you as much as they can.

I had a boxer with cardiomyopathy for many years. He was given sota and he did fine with that medication for many years.

I would suggest you perform a search in this forum so that you can look for analogous symptoms.

Update...

Well, we are hopefully making progress. They've found several drugs that temporarily lowered Apollo's rate below 200 (which is a major improvement) and are now just trying to fine tune them so we can bring him home. Once they get his rate to maintain a normal beat, we can find out what's wrong. They do have their doubts about cardiomyopathy since it was a sudden event and think that something could have possibly brought this on. We are still very positive and we KNOW he'll be OK. It is just tough since he acts so normal, it's just his heart. He's so young, he'll be 2 on June 24th (my birthday also) so he will definately be back with us. We should know more by this evening when the dosages are expected to take hold and lower his rate to an acceptable level.

I'm really glad they are finding meds that are hopefully helping. Keep it Apollo, your family needs you! You know as much as they depend on us, I think we depend on them even more.
