Anyone's boxer jump the fence?

Tyson loves playing outside when the weather is decent. Lately I havnt been able to let him run off leash in the back yard because he keeps jumping the gate. He want do it if im there, but if I just want him to play in the yard for a littel bit without me, hes gone in just a sec. The fence is 6ft high, but there is a section by the porch that is only 4 ft. I dont really want to raise the fence because were just renting. What other options do I have so he can have more play time in the back yard?

I though of putting a runner and cable to keep him in the yard? Anyone done this?
Also tyon is 100% inside dog. I just want him to be able to play outside more.

Shhhhhhh! Don't give my boxers any ideas ! Fred could easily clear our fence, but he does not know that. For some reason none of ours have ever figured it out (I am knocking on wood, and counting my blessings as I type). If you do some sort of runner, you just have to be extremely careful that there is nothing in the way to cause injury to Tyson should he get tangled. Could you possible just add a section of fencing to the top of the low area?

I could but I dont think it would look right and since Im renting Im not sure more land lord would like the idea.

Cooper doesn't jump the fence.. he CLIMBS it! He runs full tilt boogie and lands on the railing that holds up the boards and hangs his paws over the top of the fence. He intimidates the Dachshunds next door. LOL! I am still trying to figure out a way to stop this behavior.

I would recommend putting up extra fence. I would talk to your landlord about it. I am sure as long as you do a good job that he won't mind.

My girl can "jump" a five foot fence, and under the right conditions can get over a six foot. It's unbelievable when they are inclined to jump. I would hesitate to put a tie out on a "jumper" as he could hurt himself trying to jump the fence. If you can't add to the fence then you probably need to be with him. I have to be out there with my girl but I will say we have spent that time learning not to "touch" the fence. So after almost three years she now knows she can go to the fence but cannot "touch " it. Luckily, Buster hasn't tried to jump our of our yard and 4' fence.

In your situation, I would talk to your landlord and see if he would mind if you added a taller section on that part of the fence that is only 4'...maybe something that can be taken back down once you move out. As long as it doesn't damage what he has there already, I can't imagine that he would mind.

I think Billy is just too lazy/tired to jump our fence. He loves the A-frame and jumps at agility though!!

Ms. Ali has no interest in jumping. It might be that she's just too lazy but my friends boxer has cleared an 8 ft. fence. I coudn't believe it when she told me but lately every time we go to the ball field to let the dogs run he clears the fence which is easily 6 ft. or more. Ms. Ali just looks at him like "what in the heck are you doing"? So now we walk them together cause it's just not safe. He could be killed in a flash. Good Luck.

I fostered a male boxer around one year old who stood still and then jumped straight up and over a 4 foot baby gate. I have no doubt in my mind he could clear 8 ft with a running start. I would talk to the landlord and see if they will let you add something that is removable when you move out.

What kind of fence is it? I've heard they won't jump the fence if they can't see the landing on the other side.
