Anyone know anything about hockey??

My boyfriends birthday is in just over a month and Christmas is coming! He is the biggest Detroit Red Wings fan ever. How this happened I have no idea - there is NO hockey in Southern Louisiana. Needless to say, I know nothing about hockey and am attempting to keep this a surprise.

I wanted to get him tickets to the Red Wings vs. Blackhawks game and fly up to Detroit for it.

Where are good seats at a hockey game?! I have no idea whats good...and If i'm doing this we are going all out.

If anyone know anything about what to do while is Detroit...we will be there for a weekend in January.

- He's never been on a plane
- He's never seen snow
- Never seen the Red Wings play
..........I think he will be happy :D

Now I just need to know what are good seats, what to do in Detroit...and then spend wayyy too much $$ doing it. hahah

We sat kind of on the side, not high, not too low either.. and it was good. I would say it was perfect. Be ready to be chilly. I think a nice microfiber blanket is good to have. it's easy to put in your suitcase and it will help a lot watching the game! Scarf too!

I had gotten the tickets from a discount website. I don't know if i can tell... but the prices were very good for the seating area!

I wouldnt like seating behind the goal, because the other side of the rink would be hard to see.. and the puck is tiny

I know nothing about Detroit either..

I found some center ice behind the Red Wings bench - row 7. I wanted to be on the ice...but I remember him saying one day he would never want to sit there because "you can't see the plays develop"....whatever that means.

Detroit in January - I'm sure I've never experienced temperatures like that.

Well - my hubby is a huge blackhawks fan, but we haven't been to many games.

First of all - Yes, you will be deathly cold up here - that's for sure!

Check out seatdata.com - you can like type in rows, etc. of any venue and they give you a preview of what the seats would look like - maybe that will help?

Third - detroit is kinda ghetto....i've heard. I wonder if you could get tickets when they play in Chicago - downtown Chicago has TONS of stuff to do and is gorgeous and not scary....I personally am afraid of Detroit - so just be careful where you guys stay, etc.

I"ve heard the same thing. My Dad flys to Detroit once a week for work and he says the same thing.....being from New Orleans...I know what you mean. Good areas of the city...not so good areas of the city. I found some casino/hotels downtown near the arena that actually have a shuttle to the game.

I thought about going to a different city - Detroit wasn't on my list of places to visit. But......its where "his" team plays and in Daniels eyes - the holy grail. I ended up getting center ice 10th row behind the red wings bench. I hope those are good seats ......they sure were expensive enough!

ok ~ I live in kalamazoo .... about 3 hrs from detriot. yes careful where u wonder 2 ~ but like any big city , u have good n bad !!

my sis is a HUGE fan , went to opening & had a party box ( NOW that was pricey !! ) when she goes they ALWAYS go to "hocky town usa" i AM SURE A GOOGLE search will give more info ! ITs, bar , restaurant, shops , memorabilia ect. detriot is going to be SUPER cold ! u are going to be near the water & lots of high winds & stinging ice showers ~ so bring lots of warm clothes !!

there also are so many things to see ~ go to the official website. mi.org. find detriot & u can see some of the main attractions.

I will ask sis what else is a must see & let u know !

Ah! I'm not sure even how to dress! hahah We don't get snow here. Every now and then in the winter it can dip down into the 20's at night - I'm not sure it was even in the 30's during the day last year..i think 40 was as low as it got

think ZERO & lower !!! its COLD ! we put coats on our pups & shoes even for a quick potty break !!

lots of light layers ~ as the temps can change quickly here, hats , gloves , scarves , warm boots , lots of socks !! I dont know how much touring of the city u want to do ~ but if you are going to be outside alot , you will wants lots n lots of warm clothes !

if just going from cab to establishment kinda thing ~ heavy coat , hats , gloves , nice water proof boots.

i grew up in FLA & NC ~ it was a bit of a shock when we moved here !!!

Those should be great seats. DH and I try to go to one Bruins game a year (wish we could afford more!), last year we went all out and sat 15 rows up from the ice. It was awesome and we could see everything.
