I live in the Kennesaw/Woodstock area and the current Vet I go to seems a bit expensive. Plus my dog always has chronic ear problems and they give him oitment. Problem is that the ointment doesn't last too long. When his ear problems return they always want to see him even though he has had the same ear problems for years and they always give him the same ointment.

We have gone to Montrose Animal Hospital for quite awhile and have been very happy with Dr Webster and Dr Bondurant. We very much like their handling and rapport with our boxers, and us for that matter. When we had Layla spayed, Dr Webster changed her vacation schedule to do it, and was thoroughly aware of the ACE issue with boxers.

Dr. Barreirinhas is new and we don't go to her. Her handling isn't as skilled, and Layla just isn't comfortable with her.

Have they thought to figure out what's causing the ear infections in the first place?

The vet I see is located in Alpharetta -- a bit of a drive for you (I'm in Woodstock and it's nearly an hour away from me). I have visited several different vets in the Roswell/Woodstock area and was not really thrilled with any of them. Finally found this one in Alpharetta late this past summer, and can't say enough good things about them! The name of the place is Midway Animal Hospital, if you want to give them a try. They're not "cheap" but I've seen two vets there so far and have been very happy with the level of care my dogs received, and the communication that the vets had with me, especially their willingness to discuss different treatment options and work with my budget. They listened to all my concerns and have never pushed procedures that I don't feel comfortable with or can't afford.

Wherever you go, spend a lot of time asking questions. Communication is key! Voice your concerns about the problem recurring and ask what might possibly be causing it. Find out how they might go about determining what the underlying issue is, and how different issues might be treated -- and of course, the costs of all those procedures. A good vet won't push you to do anything you don't want to do, and won't think any less of you for being concerned about price.

Also make sure your dog gets a full physical exam when he sees the vet -- a physical is essentially what you're paying for with the office visit, but this often gets overlooked.

It might be a while before you find a vet that you really love, but just keep trying different places until you do. I visited different vets for about 2 years before I found one that I was happy with.

Thats the problem. None of the vets I've gone to can tell us why our boxer is itchy and has ear problems. He has a great diet so it isn't that.

I hope he doesn't have a thyroid problem but it sounds like he may. I am surprised no vet has recommended a test yet.

Have you guys ever gone to bells ferry vet on 92?

Never been there... checked their website though (very briefly), and I like that they have AAHA accreditation cool2icon Worth checking it out if it's close to you, definitely. Be sure to ask about a thyroid test wherever you go!
