My husband and I have decided to move from Cleveland to Phoenix. He just started looking for a job out there, so there we won't be moving right away. My sister and brother-in-law live out in Phoenix and I have another sister moving there also. Neither of them have dogs. The only thing we are worried about is Caesar. He seems to thrive in the chilly Cleveland fall and also likes the winter. I'm just afraid he won't like all that heat. They say the evenings are cool so I'm hoping we'll be able to play in the evenings with him outside. Can anyone tell me what it's like to have a dog in a place like Phoenix?

Hi Cara,
There are lots of folks here on the board from Arizona :)
As a matter of fact, We brought our rescue baby Sammy to his new forever home in Tuscon. We like Arizona alot and really enjoyed our visit a year ago to Scottsdale. It definately is hot (whew) in the summer but all the boxers seem to do well. You may want to post in ChitChat too. The Phoenix boxer rescue is very well run and helps the LA rescue too. They place lots of boxers in AZ.
Good luck on your move! I moved from Maine to LA so it takes adjusting- but you will enjoy it!

Badassboxer is from Phoenix...and so is my best friend!

She moved out there this year and is already giving her time to the local Boxer Rescues. From what I hear there are a bunch of Boxer owners out there!

Good luck with the move! I once thought of going out there but Hook is really bad with hot weather...and no matter what Arizonians say, the heat is hot...with or without humidity!

I live in the Phoenix area and have 2 boxers. I'm careful to wait until after the sun goes down in the evening before taking them for walks or to the park but that's really only in the summer. It's wonderful in the winter. I also hose mine down if they go out in the heat and play. It cools them down pretty quick. (oh, when they say it cools down in the evening, it was a "cool" 94 degrees at midnight on Saturday) The only real thing I've noticed is that my dogs do not play as hard or as long in the heat.

I live in Phoenix. Oscar has a play pool that I clean and fill with fresh water every day. I also usually don't take him for walks until after 9. We also take lots of water breaks. Oscar also loves to romp through any sprinkler he can find even if they are not in his yard. Summer's can be harsh but as long as you can keep indoors during the realy hot times, your boxer should just fine. Best of luck, let us know when you arrive and how everything went.
