My boyfriend & I got our boxer almost a year ago, she's two years old now & is VERY attached to me. She gets seperation anxiety when I leave & last night I went to a friends house for dinner, my boyfriend called me, said he fed her over an hour ago & she wouldn't eat. She's been on a raw diet for a while now & has never refused her food since we started her on it.

I get home, pick up a piece to give to her & she then proceeds to finish her entire meal without a problem. I walked away & into another room & she still continued to eat. Now, that I think of it she did something simular the other night as well. She only ate some of her food but, didn't finish it until I got home.

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT??????

I'm concerned that this is going to become a regular thing now. I can't always be home for her dinner & what if I go out of town?! I am usually the one to feed her but, she's never had a problem w/ my boyfriend feeding her in the past.

I would have him feed her several meals while you are there. Maybe help warm up to someone else being in control of her meals. That may help when you have to leave during meal time.

I totally agree with this. Kilby is particularly attached to me and we've known that from the get go so I got DH to feed both girls most of the time when they were puppies, now we're about 50/50. I used go interstate for a couple of nights every 2-3wks for business and because she was used to being fed by hubby at least that was part of her routine that wasn't upset (once she'd had a bit to eat she'd return to the window pining for her mummy though apparently).

Also, I wouldn't be picking up any food and giving it to her as I'd guess this is her testing you. She won't starve herself (Kilby goes for 2-3 days w/out taking a bite) so I'd say BF should feed her and stick to a time limit so if she hasn't eaten in 20mins or whatever take it away from her. She'll get the hang of it pretty quick.

Good luck

I know we need to stop helping her eat sometimes. I don't do it for the entire meal but if there's a particular boney piece she gets discouraged. I need to start putting down the towel for her again it just always manages to stray off that towel while she's grubbin. She knows it needs to stay on there but it still manages to get on the floors at one point in time or another.

I'll have to tell him to put the food away if she refuses again. She's just so darn skinny as it is, I'd hate for her not to eat.

Also Lily... not sure if Bryan feeding her will help as she won't have a problem with it so long as I'm nearby. It's just when I'm gone. It's kind of tricky too cause he generally works ALOT!
