well this weekend were looking to take kadie and rocky camping with us. im wondering how its going to be in a tent with 2 dogs, one thing does there nails perice through the bottem of the tent? what do you take with you to keep in your site? i was thinking about getting 2 of them cork screw leashes so they can be on them while we are in the area and then just regular leashes for walks and stuff, but just wondiner what everyone else uses and if you like it with your dogs or are they more of a pain when you go?

thanks,

We take all three of our dogs camping and it's great! We had the corkscrew stakes but with all the rocks in the ground it was nearly impossible to get them in. We bought a straight stake that you drive into the ground with a hammer, and it has a swivel hook on the top to latch a cable to. We've never had a problem with the dogs' nails in the tent. They even sleep with us on an air mattress and all has been well so far! Good luck!

Same for us. We've taking Zeus camping in New Braunfels. He slept with us on our air mattress and we had no problems. I used his regular leash and just tied it to our picnic table or just took him with us whereever we went. I had a posh blanket and food and water set up for him, and just made sure he had regular rest room breaks. Overall, he was very good.

Delilah has gone camping 3 times since I've had her and she loves being around people but doesn't like being tied up too much. Unfortunately, most campgrounds frown upon letting your dog run loose. I took her soft sided crate with me and she loved having her own familiar spot to rest in. It fit in my tent as well. She DID bust through the zipper of my last tent (now have a new one from LL Bean which will repair zippers if broken). She heard people around the fire and decided to leave on her own to see who was out there!!! Lesson learned........ don't zip the dog into an expensive tent unless you're in there too.

We took Dillon to Mammoth with us last year in September. It was really fun. We took him on hikes and fishing with us and he had a ball. We never left him unattended at camp, but the way we tied him up was just to put a 30 foot leash and hooked it onto the picnic table.

He slept in our tent with us. We had a portable kennel for him, but he wouldn't go in it, he had to sleep right in between us on the air matress. We didn't have any problems with his claws because the bottom of the tent was made of a tarp like material, plus we always lay a tarp under it to keep out moisture.

We did have a couple bears in our camp at night and one even broke into our bear box and ate our Oreos, but he was fine other than a little frightened. One even had the balls to walk right through our camp during the day when we were sitting at the picnic table playing cards. Dillon saw him and charged right at him. His leash maxed out right as he hit the bears shoulder. I think he might have even nipped him, but the bear was a teenager and I think he was as scared as we were and trotted off. It was pretty scary though. I just saw the bear out of the corner of my eye when we were playing cards and it was only about 10 feet from me.

There are some pictures in our gallery.

I just saw the coolest tent at Target! It was pretty expensive like $179 but huge! It would be perfect for a big family. It had one sleeping area on one side like for the parents and in the middle a big all screened in room and another sleeping area on the other side for kids or something. The middle room is a pet den specifically for your dogs to stay in and they can see out all the way around! I'm so mad because we just bought a big tent last summer (before the dogs) but I have to have this one! We're going camping this summer with them but I just hope they won't be barking at all the noises around them, Dozer is so protective and any sound he thinks is a threat. I can see it now, I'd probably get tossed out of the campground at 2:00am because my dog won't be quiet!

We used to have a pop-up tent trailer, and we took Roxie and Dylan everytime we went. It was wonderful!!! All we brought were their leashes and of course water bowls, food, cookies, sunscreen, benadryl, lots of it!!! Just in case :) We often would camp with my Mom & Dad, they have a huge motorhome, so we'd all sit around the fire at night, Roxie in her Daddys lap and Dylan in his Grampys lap. They just sat there, good as gold, time for bed, Hubbie would sleep on one end of the pop-up with one babie and I'd sleep on the other end with the other babie, we tried it all of us together but they were only full size beds, lol, lol. Have to have the babies compfy you know:)

I've made plans to meet some friends next weekend at Possum Kingdom Lake (Yes, I know that's not the correct spelling, but anyone from Texas will agree, there's no "O" at the beginning "possum".) Anyway, like I said, plans have been made to spend next weekend camping and it will be ABBYs' first experience in wild outdoors. I can't wait to tell you all about it. That's if we survive!

Never taken my boxer boy, but have taken my All American and my Jack Russell. I love not having to leave the gang behind...and on a cold night it's nice to have heaters.

We camp all the time with Moe. We had a popup but Mopar outgrew it so we ended up getting a travel trailer. He loves the attention he gets when we go camping.
