Anyone else with this problem? Long...

Vegas understands heel and is great when we're out walking. He's even getting better at not jumping or lunging at people when they walk up to us or walk past us in the street. Unfortunately, Vegas is still lunging at other dogs (not in an aggressive way). He wants to play with every single dog we pass. He leaps about, all four paws off the ground, etc. when he gets to sniff other dogs.
We have tried to make him sit before they approach, while he is around other dogs, etc. He does but when he's released out of the sit, he goes ballistic!

I feel so helpless. We give him the really good treats when trying to train him out of that but he's just not getting it. He can't help himself. I thought taking him to the dog park regularly would sooth his need to do that but it doesn't make any difference. When he knows we're heading to the dog park he starts to get hyperactive. It takes us forever to get there because when he pulls on the leash we do half circles to bring him back to heel or get him to sit.

Anyone else dealing with this problem - or have dealt with it.

ALL advice welcome!

Rolen hasn't met a stranger when it comes to other dogs! He thinks every dog wants to play. He used to be really bad when on leash and another dog would be coming towards us. I used to hate walking with Rolen and running into another dog on leash and owner. I started using the "look" command, so when I see another dog walking towards us or is up ahead of us, I shorten up the leash and then will get out a treat and tell Rolen to "look". He then looks at me and I will hold the treat out and tell him to heel and keep giving the look command and treating until the other dog is gone. Right now it takes a few treats, but I'm hoping eventually he won't need as many treats. So far it has worked for us. Wishing you luck! :)

Oooh, I love the 'watch me' command! I didn't think of using it that way! I will try today and let you know how it works!

Thanks!!

In the meantime...any other suggestions anyone?

Sometimes we use the "leave it" command. Although he's not about to "take" the other dog, it still helps them to not become fixated on the other dog.

Yeah...no...the 'watch me' doesn't work... will try the 'leave it'. I try to get him to sit/stay but he always makes a bolt for the other dog at the last second!
SO FRUSTRATING!!!
It's the only thing left in his training that we're finding he just won't clue into.

I just keep walking with a loose lead, really calm, also using the "leave" command if I need to.
