I use to have 3 boxer's 2 female and 1 male. when my girls reached adult they started to fight and every fight got worse till it was finally to the death.

I'm curious as to whether or not they were sisters or not. We have sisters, 9 weeks old right now, but when I read this I became quite concerned. Our breeder told us they would be okay as we plan on having them spayed, but after reading this I don't know what to do. They are quite rough with each already and I don't know if it's puppy play or what now.

I'm sorry for your loss and do appreciate any insight you can give us.

debbie, not all females fight. alot of people here on bw have 2 or more females with no problems it is just a greater probability with boxer females. my 2 were not sister's but were raised since they were puppies. they just say that the best match is male/female. that does not mean in any way that your girls will fight.as far as being ruff. boxers love to play ruff it is just there way. good luck and if you have any questions just let me know.

Trish, I am so sorry. I can't imagine what you went through, and thanks for sharing your tragic experience with us. When I was growing up, we always had multiple boxers. When I received Ruckus (now 12 years old) for a christmas present, he was our 3rd boxer. We already had one other male (neutered later in life) and a female, which my parents did breed. The only time we had any problems was when our female would go into heat. I'm also getting ready to add a male "foster boxer" to my flock. I do realize that it's very hard to give all the attention needed when there is a crowd, but with fostering and also with your shelter rescue, I almost want to say their situation is so severly tragic, that my love to them and the attention they will receive has got to be an improvement to where they are now. I would however, suggest that you educate yourself on dog fights. There are some very graphic but necessary websites that can help you just to be prepared in case of the worst.

Trish,

Thanks for your reply. I know that females in any breed can be more agressive with each other, including my cats. Hopefully we'll never have to face what you did.

Two's the limit

Before my ex and I split up we had 3 dogs - an old lab mix (female & very docile) and two boxers - the 3rd dog (boxer) was a rescue and sweet as pie - she became the Alpha female - and became agressive to our first boxer (female) and lab mix - just out of no where she's attack - we had a behavioralist come in but it didn't help matters. I kept the first boxer and my ex took the lab mix and boxer 2. Well, boxer 2 ended up with two other new dogs - 4 dogs - and became more agressive to the point she has to be kept separate from the two new dogs - my poor lab mix (13 1/2 yrs old) had to be put asleep in February because of health problems. Two dogs is fine - 3 or more then the "PACK" mentality comes into affect, you get the ALPHA dog and fights to put each other into place and weed out the weak.

We had Phoebe and George first, when we got Grace both dogs were very happy a new puppy. George is very loving and gets along with both girls, . When both females were around a year the fighting started and did not stop no matter what we did, to this day the girls are still separated. Just be prepared for all of the possible outcomes.
