I had posted earlier problems with Lucy going potty in her crate. I have tried every approach, and with the latest attempts we are still having at least ONE accident (pee or poop) in her crate per day. Thankful, though, never accidents while lose in the house. She is going on 13 weeks.

Does anyone else have a pup with daily messes? Is there hope us? My husband is at his wits end, because this should be unnatural for dogs, especially the poop part.

Is her crate to big for her? although Lucy still would do it for awhile when she was younger but eventually stopped. just hang in there it will get better.

How big is your crate? It should only be big enough so that they can stand up, turn around and lie down. If it's big enough so that they can go to the bathroom and not lie in it, they will.

How long is your pup in the crate? A 13 week old pup can be crated for maybe 4 hours. Most pups would be able to hold it that long, but there are always exceptions.

It could alse be separation anxiety.

FIrst of all, that is great that you have no accidents while Lucy is lose in the house. Our Rosey is 13 weeks and still has accidents. She was going in her crate also, but I figured out the crate was to big. I sectioned the crate off and made it smaller and no more accidents. Good luck.

We have her crate sectioned off so she is limited to just being able to turn around. I never leave her for more than 2 hours, usually it's more like 1 hour.
This is why I'm so concerned. I've been following a strict schedule for letting her out too, she goes right to her spot outside and I praise her.

We had some crate issues with Porter. No matter what time of day, whenever we would put him in his crate he would go poopie within minutes even if he was just out. He HATED his crate and would violently slam his body against it all night. We met with a behaviorist and he suggested to take him out of the crate and gate him in the kitchen (which we had done the night before). The crying all night stopped and once we closed the gate, there were no accidents like that.

We had his crate sectioned off, tried putting in one of our T-shirts, and ever treats in there and nothing helped.

Part of me thinks it was horrible for him cause Nestle is not crated anymore.

keep it up. at 13 weeks old, your puppy is still very young and by no way should you expect her to be completely housetrained. a good estimate might be 8-9 months of age for her to fully understand the housetraining concept and even then they are entering their adolescent stage and will sometimes regress a bit.
since you have her on a potty training schedule, try allowing her more time in between potty breaks. try placing her inside her crate for longer periods of time in order to help her understand that she has to hold it. if you let her out too frequently and don't allow her to build up her "stamina" then she might be getting accustomed to going whenever she feels the urge. the concept is to get them to hold it and let you know. house training can be quite difficult, since it requires constant supervision of you dog while they are not in the crate. just be patient and keep a watchful eye over her.

Good day

Thanks everybody.

I am happy to say that today was our first dry day in the crate!!!!! I can't believe it. Hopefully she will forget she ever "went" in the crate and keep going outside. I am back to feeding her 2x a day, as the breeder had done, so maybe this is helping. She never ate her noon meal anyhow.
