One of mine leaks also. After the vet ruled out UTI, she prescribed phenylprpanolamine. It works. Shorts take 1/2 pill, 25 mgs 2x per day. I know this would be another pill but it works well for her. No more drips

Thanks very much for all the suggestions. Unfortunately South Africa can be a little slow at catching up on certain things like doggie diapers.

Thanks for that link KonaKoffe I think I could copy those belly bands quite easily. In the meantime I will try the boys undies idea.

Unfortunately the pills only work for the females and in Rays case is definately his heart meds which is making his problem so much worse. Apparently you can't just give any heart meds because it might kill the dog, Ray went through a whole range of tests to make sure he was given the correct medication and in the correct dosage.

I think that any other vet would give me the same result, my vet consults with a very reputable cardio specialist and I am happy to say he admits when something is beyond his field of knowledge. He will rather refer me to someone more knowledgable than try and do a treatment himself if he is uncertain.

Thanks again I will let you all know how it works out !!

Woo Hoo I may actually have found someone who supplies diapers and they are in my area. I was doing a search to see if I could find the supplier of the bed I have for Sugar and Ray and I came across the diapers, after I had searched for them specifically and couldn't find any :o.

Surviving Cancer is huge. I hope his limping goes away and he feels better. A friend of mine actually receives a catalogue full of doggy items and there is a male diaper in there that you can order. I will contact her tonight when she gets off of work and ask her what the web address is and post it here for you. Of course this diaper is designed especially for male dogs so it would be better than a female diaper i think. I will post this for you later tonight.

Just a quick update.

Our limp has gone, thank heavens and I have tried the undies with a pad in for the last 2 days, which seems to work ok so far.

It was too funny to watch though, Ray wasn't sure of this whole underpants story, he kept trying to grab at it, but as soon as he settled down he was fine with it :D. But I told him not to go running to the gate like that, just in case the neighbours think that I have now really lost it lmao. foolicon

Now I need to get me a sewing machine and I will make him a bellyband, but in the meantime I dont have to follow after him wiping up puddles and drips.

Thanks again for all the advice everyone!!

There are a number of internet sites that sell these incontinent diapers for dogs. Just google in doggie pants or dog diapers and see what comes up. I love buying stuff on the internet. A much better selection than what you get at retail and a lot more imaginative offerings, as well.
Good luck with your sweet old boy. He can't help his problem, and he's probably embarrassed as well. He can tell you aren't happy with him, so check out some of those websites and see what you can find.

I just caught this, and I'm sorry! Years ago (like 8+) we had a boxer, Buckwheat ;), and as he got older (he was almost 16 when we put him down) he had really severe kidney failure and dripped a lot. A very cheap alternative was, we took regular people depends, turned then sideways and strapped them to him whenever he was in the house. It wasn't the most attractive thing ever, but it did the job. He wore those for probably 2 years! Like I said, they sale depends with elastic straps, we put knots in the straps to pull them up tighter, then just buttoned the depends on sideways (like a sling) and it came up his sides and buttoned on his back. He didn't mind this as much because there wasn't anything on his rear, it was on his sides. Anyway, just an alternative. Good luck, I hope he's doing better now!

Thanks boxerchick, it looks like this is going to be for the rest of his life, the regular depends is another idea I hadn't thought of. I am going to give all the suggestions a try and see which works best for him.

Thanks again !!

depends for dogs...

I have a friend whose pug has a degenerative spinal disease and can no longer control his urine flow. She uses depends pads with this little diaper waste belt type thing made for male dogs--the Depends are less expensive than doggie diapers. I will call her tonight and ask her where she bought the little diaper belt...

good luck!
