My 3 year old female boxer received an anthihistimine shot last Sunday for allergies to her eyes. Friday night I awoke to her urinating all over the carpet and had urinated on the bed some also. Saturday she was eating and starting walking around the kitchen urinating everywhere. I called the vet and they said that the shot could be causing her to drink more water for about a week. Has anyone else had this happen? Do you think she could have a urinary tract infection now? She is on Keflex for the rawness in the folds under her eyes from the allergies, do you think this will take care of a UTI or does she need something stronger? Thanks for any input.

Cody would get an antihistamine shot every Spring. It also made him have accidents and my vet also said it was due to drinking too much water. I had them cut the dosage down after the first year. I don't remember the accidents and excessive drinking lasting a week though, but I am not for sure. Other than the accidents the shots really helped him.

I don't have an answer for your other questions but I wanted to let you know about the extra water drinking and the accidents.

I would call the vet though and just tell them so they can let you know if it is abnormal.

Good Luck!

After Max's shot, he drank like there was no tomorrow. The antihistamine probably dried him out and he was thirsty.

My poor pup had a vaccination reaction at 9 weeks and his poor head swelled...I took him back to the vet and he received an antihistimine shot.... needless to say now he has to pee every 20-45 minutes now, plus he's on children's benedryl for the next 24 hrs. I suspect now that this maybe a set back in his potty training... Oh well, I just glad he's alright!
