Hi All!

Now, I have I always been a happy and loyal Nutro proponent, with the Lamb and Rice being gentle enough for Angus' stomach, but in the last 3-4 months it has become increasingly more difficult to manage his sensitive stomach without him teetering into bouts of colitis....

At present, Angus is on Prescription I/D and is okay but as we all know, it is VERY costly, and his mother will have to take up robbing liquor stores to pay for his food ;), I wanted some suggestions on what you all with fellow stomach issues are feeding with success. At this point, Angus leads a pretty boring life since any and all food other than the I/D makes him sick. I would love to go back to Nutro, but I am afraid that is out of the question.

I know there are a 1,000 threads about food, but and suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Leezah & Angus

Lacy has had problems with loose stools most of her life. She eats Eukanuba Low Residue (from the vet) right now, but we are in the process of switching to regular food. We have had luck with two foods Regal Sensi-Bites and Regal Venison. She had bad gas when she ate the Sensi, but this was eliminated by going with the venison. I don't know if this food is sold everywhere, but it seems to be working for Lacy. They have a website at www.regalpetfoods.com
We did try Nutro before the Regal and Lacy went back to having loose stools... so we're keeping our fingers crossed that this food works for her. Also, we switched from Old Mother Hubbard biscuits to Science Diet Light Chicken treats. I think her old biscuits were contributing to her problem. Good luck!

sensitive stomach

Gina has a very, very sensitive stomach too! We had problems with loose stool and horrible gas on Nutro. We finally discovered Eagle Pack (be warned it's expensive!) but, we have seen wonderful improvements. All of her digestive troubles are over. Also my 8 year old Chow/Rottie mix (who has eaten Nutro her whole life) has adjusted really well to the Eagle Pack. Her fur has never looked better and it seems her energy level is up. It was difficult to find here in Nashville and may be in your area as well but, I think it is well worth the effort and the extra cost. Hope this helps.

Amaya had colitis last summer and ate ID for almost 6 months. I just weaned her onto Hill Senstive stomach formula. The ingredients are similar but it is about $20 a bag cheaper.

Hills has a good website which lists info about each type of food and the ingredients. I talked to the vet before I switched. Since Amaya had been issue free for a few months they said to try to switch and see how it goes. It's been great for us.

One thing you should know about Nutro...they are in the process of mass marketing their entire line...ergo, quality drops...I first noticed it in the Nutro Max line; they introduced wheat and a few other not so good for our dogs ingredients and dogs were getting sick by the dozens...now that the natural choice line is available in every warehouse pet store in the world and not just independents look for the introduction of tummy upsetting ingredients...

I first started my dog on a holistic line called Solid Gold...excellent food...horrible gas!!! Innova is the only thing I've found that doesn't give him horrible gas and his stools have firmed up. I'm pretty sure both Solid Gold and Innova have web sites but I'm not sure what they are...

Thanks for the replies, at the moment we are trying to integrate the Wellness Lamb and Rice into Angus' I/D to see if he can take it, so far, so good. I was going to go directly with the Fish and Sweet Potato but I wanted to give Lamb and Rice one more try.

One thing I know is he really loves the taste of the Wellness food and I am pleased about the ingredient list. I'll keep my fingers crossed as we phase out the I/D and hope for the best.

We raised Cody on Pedigree dry food then switched to Iams Adult Chunks dry food and he loves it. We mix moist food for a treat every now and then. When money is tight, because those Iams are expensive!!!, we go back to the Pedigree. Alex will eat basically anything so nothing really upsets her too much. Cody is much older so we watch his diet a little more and so far, it's all okay.

We get a kick out of watching Cody eat Pedigree. The one with the brown chunks and the little bones? Our kitchen floor is constantly littered with those little bones. He literally spits them out while he eats, like someone does with a sunflower seed shell. He's always done that, since he was little. Alex, well, she inhales the food and picks up the rest of the bones like a Hoover. It's so funny.

Good luck!
