Another cage training thread..

We always put a blanket over Bennington's crate when it is time to go to bed. He still whines for about 10 minutes (beacuse he can hear us talking), but then he is fine until about 6:00 AM. I have also found that if I put a kong with peanut butter in it, it keeps him busy for a little while and by the time he is finished with it the house is completely quiet. He doesn't whine at all when we do this.

We made the mistake of letting Belle sleep with us for a couple of weeks before we put her in the crate at night. Bad mistake. We enjoyed having her in the bed and when we DID decide she needed to sleep in her own bed, it was awful. She cried for 4 or 5 nights in a row. I put a sheet over the top and sides of the crate but positioned it so she could see us in our bed. I put in a blanket just because I couldn't stand to think of her sleeping on the hard surface of the cage. I would talk soothingly to her for a minute or so after the lights went out but then I would ignore her cries no matter how bad she got. It's so tempting to keep talking to them to quiet them but I don't think that helps. It didn't take too long before Belle was sleeping in her crate all night. This was just my personal experience. I'm fairly new at this too but I love my furbaby SO much.

Well its on and off now for the whining. Its not as loud and violent now, and he does seem to fall asleep for longer periods of time. I put the crate next to my bed, I got something from the pet store that you can warm up in the microwave, its like a flat stuffed animal. I warm the thing up , put a alarm clock in there and also have a sheet over the sides of the crate. Oh and more importanly I now sleep with ear plugs

He has not been peeing in the crate, but still does not like it when I put him in their.
