Annoying tongue clicking?

Nena made the switch from Science Diet to Timberwolf’s Black Forest about two weeks ago. She has been on 100% Timberwolf for almost a week now.

In this time I have noticed that she has begun doing this non-stop tongue clicking sound when lying in her bed. I'm having a tough time trying to describe the problem with words but I would compare it to the sound a dog will make after eating peanut butter. The Timberwolf Black Forest contains spirulina which gives it a fishy smell/taste she may not be used to, but she continues to gobble it up. The weird thing is she has done this a few times first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything.

Any ideas why she is doing this? Does it have a real name?

Thanks!

I am sorry I cannot help you with this. I am also switching my dog from Solid Gold to Timberwolf Black Forest but I have not noticed anything you described. Only that the Timberwolf kibbles do not smell as other kibbles, smell quite pleasant in fact, almost biscuit-like.

Are you sure that Timberwolf causes the problem?

Nope I am not sure what the problem is.

I don't believe it's a serious problem but I would like to make sure it's not a lack of something. She always has fresh water and I cleaned her food and water bowls after it started just to be sure.

By the way, does the tongue clicking/peanut butter description make sense? It's much easier to reproduce the sound in person! Haha

I don't know what to tell you and I hope someone has experienced the same thing as you do as I am very curious.

A lot of boxers sleep with their tongues out, and since the "tongue clicking" seems to happen when your furbaby is lying down and/or in the morning after a long sleep, it is quite possible that your dog is merely attempting to remoisten it's tongue. ~ Cathy

Nena sleeps with her tongue in. I also thought it was a moisture issue so I went and danced around her water bowl a few times in an attempt to get her to drink but it doesn't work every time.

Just a thought, Houston did this on Barking at the moon when we were feeding that, we don't anymore. It was like he was trying to "not" throw up. We switched his food to what they eat now and he hasn't done it since. Maybe Im crazy, but I really thought thats what he was doing.

We switched to Timberwolf organics ocean blue, it hasn't happened anymore. I wanted to stay with the fish for the protein because they have such a hard time with the chicken and turkey. Hey, maybe Im wrong :) It kinda sounded like Houston had peanut butter stuck to the roof of his mouth and was always trying to get it off. Poor babies:(

Needs more water?

My gal does this annoying sound every now and again, too, and I've found that she does it when her mouth is dry...Like first thing in the morning after she's had nothing yet to drink.
The dog food is so de-hydrated, that perhaps she needs a little extra water.
Even though I moisten the dog food, every now and again she'll still do the sound.
I just give her some water to wet her whistle, and she's fine.
It reminds me of when we go out to eat, then in the evening I feel parched and think, "Boy, they must've had a lot of salt in their food there..."
